Our Society And the Society In 1984?

I think that imperfect world does have an effect on our society. In the book 1984 wrote by George Orwell, the setting was in london (Oceania) it was seen as a mans point of veiw. In this book there were two main groups. There was a group called the party members and the other was called proles. The proles are shown as to ba animals. The party members say that "Proles and animals are free." The party group are seen as an elite group in this book. Their people that has been brainwashed. This is because they are always not able to trust no one.Its like in our society, we are unsure about the truth and uncertain about many things.

The main character in the story is named Winston Smith. He sees soceity as very bad and unfair. He didnt associate with no one in the book. He trys to rewrite the past to put all good things. He does this because he thinks that the soceity is corrupted.

In the novel there is a main figure named Big Brother. He is the head of the society. Theyhad a slogan that said: "Big Brother is watching you." They had posters everywhere reminding people about the slogan. Everyone is seen on screen. It was a screen that officails would watch your every move. Everything you would do you would have to be extremly careful so it wont be a wrong doing.Even thinking of something bad would be a crime. Even making weird facial exprections would be bad. They would now about your improper thoughts by something they had called the "Thought Police." If they would find out about your improper thoughts they would punish you in a place called "Ministry of Love." Here they were tortured. Of course in our society we are being watched but not everwhere. When we are caught doing something that is a crime we a are sent to jail.

The people in Oceania are constantly being put dumb things in there minds. A lot of hate to people that they are at war with. So everyone can be the same. In the party sex is just a duty not pleasure. Sex is just to reproduce to form life. Winstons wife wasn't sexual at all. In our society sex is extremely important everyone wants it. We do what everyone else does so we wont be a outkast. In the book Winston betrays people as people betray him. There was an old man Mr. Charrington who rented out an untelescreened room to Winston. Winston really wanted because he really wanted privacy. Later on Winston finds out about how the old man was part of the "Thought Police." The old man planted a telescreen in the room. Since Winston was being punished he wanted Julia, which ws the women he was having an affair with to be punished too. Now a days its hard to have a relationship because we are almost always busy.

In conclusion the novel 1984,related a lot to our society because there is no way that there can be a perfect world.
