Chapter Twenty-one
Hailee came walking into the house, baseball cleats on and everything, her best friend Tiffany right behind her, talking on and on about anything she could think of. JC was in the kitchen finishing making spaghetti while Adrea was putting Taylor and Tyler in their high chairs. JC looked up and over at Adrea when the two 14 year olds walked into the kitchen, one covered in dirt from head to toe, the other perfectly clean.
“I still say he likes you, he is always staring at you.” Tiffany said chewing on some gum as they made their way into the laundry room where Hailee striped out of her practice uniform and into some sweat pants and a T-shirt.
“Shut up Tiffany, he don’t like me and I hope it stays like that!” Hailee rolled her eyes as they walked back into the kitchen.
“How was practice girls?” JC asked turning the stove onto simmer.
“Great, I hit a home run.” Hailee smiled as she went to the refrigerator to get some soda out.
Adrea walked by and grabbed the two cans out of Hailee’s hands and pointed to the stove. Hailee rolled her eyes at her mom and looked over at what was for dinner. Tiffany walked over to the twins and started to talk to him.
“Mr. Chasez, Tyler looks just like you!” Tiffany said as Taylor reached out and started to yank on her hair. “Ouch let me go! LET ME GO! Hailee help me your sister is attacking me!” Tiffany whined trying to pull her golden blonde hair away from the baby.
Hailee laughed at her friend and stood there pointing at her.
“That’s what you get for telling me he likes me!” Hailee smiled as she turned around and walked out of the kitchen.
JC sighed trying not to laugh as he walked over to Tiffany and helped her out.
“Are you staying for dinner tonight Tiffany?” JC asked getting plates out of the cabinet.
“Oh no, I can’t stay for dinner. We are taking David out for dinner for his birthday. He is the big One Eight now.” Tiffany rolled her eyes as she made her way out of the kitchen to find Hailee.
Tiffany sat on the couch where Hailee was watching some TV; Adrea was picking up toys that the twins had been playing with.
“So how has school been for you Tiffany?” Adrea asked looking over at them.
“It’s going good, I wish I could drop Mrs. Magi’s first period class, she is such a…” Tiffany stopped when she seen her father walking across the street to come get her, “Hey, I have to go… that’s my father. I’ll see you tomorrow in first period, I hope I get Adam!” Tiffany smiled as she got off the couch and walked out the front door.
She was to embarrass about her father, even though they had met her father before; she couldn’t stand him being around them. He was a drunk and he always got in fights with her mother.
“She hopes she gets Adam?” Adrea ask about Tiffany as she dumped the toys that she had in her hands, in a toy box in the corner of the front room.
“Mrs. Magi is doing this fake marriage thing, where we are paired up with a boy in class and we have to be ‘husband and wife’ for a week, she gives us tasks each day that we have to ‘do’.” Hailee said rolling her eyes as she stood up.
“That don’t seem to bad, it’s only for a week and I’m sure you don’t have to take it home.” Adrea said as they both started for the kitchen.
“Yeah we have to take it home, she wants us to research it and all that jazz.” Hailee sighed as her and her mother entered the kitchen.
“So who do you want to be paired up with? Any special guy in class that you like?” Adrea asked elbowing her daughter in the side.
Hailee just smiled as she sat down at the table and dug into the food in front of her. Eating dinner used to be a fun thing, now it was full of babies crying or throwing food at either JC or Adrea.
“So who is this guy that Tiffany says is staring at you?” JC asked taking a drink of his milk.
“She thinks Jon likes me. But I’ve already put that to rest, he don’t like me, and if he did I’d have to kick his ass.” Hailee said stuffing more food into her mouth.
“Watch it, you aren’t old enough to even think about cussing around me.” Adrea said raising an eyebrow.
“In California high school starts at 9th grade, here it starts at 10th grade. That is just stupid, I want to be in high school.” Hailee stated as the phone started to ring; she jumped up and ran to answer it.
“Hailee, don’t run in the house!” JC yelled after her, she was already out of sight.
“Hello?” Hailee asked plopping down on the couch.
“Hey Hailee, is your daddy around there some where?” Justin asked through the phone as he chewed on a finger.
“I don’t know what is it in for me?” Hailee asked getting up and walking towards the kitchen.
“Let me think… nothing, so put him on the phone.” Justin said bouncing his leg up and down, waiting for JC to answer the phone.
Hailee handed JC the phone and sat back down to eat the rest of her dinner. Taking the phone JC stood up and walked out of the kitchen. Walking past the front room, he made his way into his own ‘study’ room and shut the door. Usually when someone called for him it was about business.
“Justin, you do know I have stopped eating dinner to talk to you, right?” JC asked sitting down in his leather computer chair.
“I know but this is very important.” Justin said looking at a sleeping Sarah, he got up off the chair and exited his bedroom.
“If it is so damn important why haven’t you told me what it was?” JC asked clicking his tongue to the top of his mouth.
“I asked her…” Justin trailed off as he sat down on the couch down stairs.
“That’s great, and I bet she said yes and now we are all going to be a happy jolly old family.” JC rolled his eyes about to stand up.
“That’s not all… there is more news, but I was thinking having a dinner, with the guys and some family to tell them we are getting married and some other stuff.” Justin said
“Tell me it isn’t what I think it is.” JC started
“JC…” JC cut Justin off.
“Please tell me you two are moving out of state or something.” JC said rubbing his face with his hand.
“Listen JC…” JC cut Justin off again.
“Man, you two aren’t even married yet.” JC stated the obvious
“JC, I’ll just call you later…” Justin trailed off
“So I’m going to be an uncle?” JC asked catching Justin off guard, he thought for sure JC would freak out.
“Well… Yeah, I guess…” Justin gulped running a hand through his messed up curly hair.
JC sighed as he stood up and walked out of the study and back into the kitchen.
“What did I tell you? Really, I told you not to get her pregnant… what do you do, you get her pregnant, don’t you know anything about save sex? Honestly, condoms aren’t that much.” JC said sitting down at the table where everyone else was gone.
“Listen, JC… I just found out! Okay, she didn’t even tell me when she found out… how do you think I feel? I feel like the best guy on the earth that she couldn’t tell me when she found out. So I don’t need you on my case.” Justin snapped
“So how far along is she then?” JC asked as Adrea walked into the kitchen and began to pick up the dinner mess. She leaned over JC and kissed him lightly on the lips before she lips, “whose that”
“About 3 ½ months.” Justin said sitting up, when he heard his bedroom door open.
“3 ½ months! Jesus Justin…” Before he could get anything more out Justin cut him off.
“I’ve got to go talk to you later bye.” Justin said hanging up the phone and looking at Sarah walk down the stairs.
(The Next Day)
Hailee walked up the drive with Jonathan a few feet to her right. She was getting annoyed by him following her, however, she couldn’t make him go away. He was supposed to come over after school because they were all going out to dinner with Sarah and Justin. She found this whole dinner thing stupid to some points. She liked it because Joey, Lance, and Chris were supposed to be there and grandma and grandpa Chasez were also supposed to be there. Also, Jonathan’s father was out of town for the week.
“That was to cool the way Mrs. Magi picked me for this whole husband and wife thing to be with you. It’s like she knew our history.” Jon said as they entered the house.
Hailee looked around to see where Sarah and the twins were. From the looks of it, they were gone and she had the house to her self, almost.
“Jon, we don’t have a history. Never have never will.” Hailee rolled her eyes as she walked into the kitchen, dropping her backpack on the dinning room table.
“You’re just up set that you didn’t get that ass-hole Trace Curtis. He has slept with every girl friend he has ever had, that’s a lot.” Jon stated as he walked into the kitchen and got a soda and some candy out of a cabinet.
“That says a whole lot for you, if I do remember, weren’t you the one that slept with… oh what’s her face? Then there was that red head in 4th period and the freckled faced annoying blond in 5th period. I think there was two other girls in 5th and then that girl with the big boobs in PE. Wait there wasn’t one it was two girls in PE. You’ve slept with more girls then Trace has, so you shouldn’t be talking.” Hailee said raising her eyebrows.
“What it’s not my fault they like me.” Jon smiled placing a hand over his heart.
“No, they don’t like you, they like your brother!” Hailee rolled her eyes as they walked into the front room.
“They don’t even know Steven!” Jon made a face as he turned the TV on.
“You are so stupid some times, I’m talking about Justin! They all want him, and since they can’t get him they go for you. You are just… ugh, get over your self Jon!” Hailee snapped as she pulled the remote out of Jonathan’s hands and flipped the channel.
Jon smiled over at her as he leaned over and pulled the remote out of her hands, pushing her back so she couldn’t reach it. With an annoyed look on her face, Hailee placed her hand on his upper thigh and squeezed as hard as she could, that is until he handed her the remote. Jon not wanting to be taken down that way grabbed Hailee’s leg and pulled her towards him, his smile never leaving his face.
“Jon, let me go!” Hailee laughed trying to kick her feet, in hopes of getting away from him.
“Um… let me think about that one? Me letting you go, Nah, I don’t think so!” Jon said raising an eyebrow as he pulled her even more closer to him.
“I’m not giving it to you, so just go away.” Hailee said dropping the remote behind her.
“Fine I’ll have to steal it!” Jon said licking his lips as he leaned forward and kissed her hard on the lips, he was shocked when she didn’t pull away but responded.
Jon pulled out of the kiss and look Hailee over a few times before he ran his hand through her hair and down her back pushing her further up him, before his lips attacked her jaw then neck. Hailee pulled away and looked at him, at that moment she asked her self if the reason she hated him so much was because she actually liked him that much.
With both her legs on each side of Jon, Hailee’s hands went to the bottom of his shirt and she slowly pulled it up off of him before she dipped her head down and kissed him on the lips for a long period of time.
“Wait, wait… we can’t do this…” Hailee started as she got up off Jon, his face reading total confusion. “Not down here.” She added grabbing his hand and running up the stairs, over the baby gates and into her bedroom. Hailee let go of Jonathan’s hand and put her desk chair up against the door and under the handle to ‘lock’ it, since there was no real lock on it.
Sarah pushed open the front door and pushed in the stroller with the twins in it. They had been gone a good hour almost two hours; she had lost track of time. Sarah really was meaning to be home when Hailee got home from school.
“Do you know where your sister is?” Sarah asked as she pulled her jacket off and hung it up in the closet. “Do you? Huh? Say Auntie Sarah!” Sarah smiled as she unhooked Taylor then Tyler and took their jackets off.
Sarah looked around the empty front room and into the dinning room. Hailee’s backpack was resting on the table in the dinning room. Jonathan’s backpack was on the recliner next to his shoes. Sarah shrugged her shoulders as she folded the stroller up and placed it in the closet, she turned around to find Tyler playing with a T-shirt.
“Mama!” Tyler said his eyes getting bigger as Taylor tried to pull the shirt away from her older by a few minutes brother.
“Now, now no fighting.” Sarah laughed as she walked around the couch and grabbed the shirt away from Tyler. “Whose shirt is this?” She asked the two even though she knew they couldn’t answer her.
Sarah stood there a few seconds before her brain started to think she gave this shirt to Jon for Christmas the last Christmas. No sign of teenagers, boys’ shirt on couch in front room. Sarah picked up Taylor then Tyler and put them in their play pin, the moment they were in there she ran up the stairs as fast as her legs could take her and right to Hailee’s bedroom door. She wasn’t sure if she should just walk in or knock, walk in or knock.
Her gut told her to walk in, when her mind was telling her to knock. This was going to be her brother-in-law and that was her niece by law, not by blood, JC wasn’t even by blood. Gradually her hand raised and came down hard on the door as she frantically knocked on the bedroom door.
“Hailee are you in there?” Sarah asked placing her head on the door trying to hear inside the bedroom door.
“What!” Hailee yelled from the inside.
“How long have you been home?” Sarah asked turning the knob but not getting anywhere with the door.
“I don’t know half hour to about forty-five minutes, why? Where were you?” Hailee asked yawning a little, as she knew Sarah couldn’t get into her bedroom. Her eyes shifted over to Jon, he was sitting on her beanbag chair playing PS2, only in his boxers.
“On a walk with you brother and sister. Listen Hailee I need to talk to you, and I need your help with the twins. It’s very important. Is Jon in there with you?” Sarah asked wanting and wishing Hailee had chopped him up into little pieces and threw him into the pool.
Hailee with a bored look kept her eyes on Jon as she answered Sarah’s lame ass question.
“Yeah he is playing some Play Station two!” Hailee yelled not moving from where she was on her bed.
“Hailee open this door right now! I do know how to open it from the outside; I used to lock my bedroom door like this all the time. Don’t think I’m lying!” Sarah yelled slamming her shoulder against the door.
“Ugh! Hold ON! I’ll be out in a few seconds!” Hailee rolled her eyes as she got up off her bed and pulled on the clothes she was wearing earlier. She turned off her TV and threw Jonathan his pants. “Put them on… now!” She hissed as she pulled her hair up and walked to the door.
Hailee turned around and was face to face with a now half dressed Jonathan. With out noticed he kissed her on the lips pushing her up against the wall, next to the door. At that same moment the door flew open and there stood a pissed off Sarah. Sarah grabbed Jonathan by the arm and pulled him out of the bedroom stuffing his shirt in his face.
