WUJIL RE KA KOJONIK MAY KI-CHE

Our Maya Kiche Faith
Chuch Kajau Rigoberto Itzep

So that None may Say
that the Maya are on the Road to Extinction ;

We must become a Greater Force
to firmly Discard this Shroud that Covers Us

Then shall We become a Star Brightly Shining in the Universe ;
where Everything will Be in Harmony

OUR SPIRITUAL VALUES

Our Ancestors the Maya, the Men of Maiz ;
were the First Heirs to this Land of the Sun

"As in Nature, a Drop of Water is One only with the Sea;
and a Ray of Light is One only with the Sun.
So; God and Mankind; Father and Son,
Mother and Daughter are One in the Same Being."

KNOWING OUR MAYA KI-CHE FAITH

In the Maya Religion three Sacred Principles Exist; These Are:

BITOL, TZAKOL, KAJAU
[God]

RI JUYUB TQKAJ
[Nature]

RI NAN TAT
[Nawales and Grandparents]

Our Maya Faith has a Special Importance
so that not just Anyone
can Attribute Things that do not Relate to it ;
much less the People
that are not of Maya Blood.

Within our Religion, only Certain Individuals
can Exercise Responsibilities and Practice Rituals,
having been Chosen by these same Spiritual Laws
in Accordance with their Destinies

It is Better to Base Our Petitions
Firmly on Solid Traditional Practices

There have also Fallen into Forgetfulness
Celebrations of Great Special Meaning
for our Daily Life that concern the Relationship
that We have with Nature,
such as the Celebrations of Planting,
Harvest, the Sun, the Moon, etc. ;
because We are in Certain Ways
No Longer in Harmony,
Not even Among Ourselves,
the Children of the Blood ;
and We have become Very Divided

PROCEDURES FOLLOWED BY THE AJ KIJ
IN THEIR CEREMONIES
According to our Ancestors

Upon Arriving at the Sacred Place,
Greeting in the following Order :

RI EL BAL KIJ
East

RI KAJIBAL KIJ
West

RU KIY BAL KAJ
North

RU MOSH KAJ
South

Lowering to the Right Knee, Following the Previous Order, Say :

TZAJ LA NABE KATIT KA MAM
BALAM AKAB NABE CHOMIJA

TZAJ BALA UKAB KATIT KA MAM
BALAMKITZE UKAB KATIT KAJA' PALUNA'

TZAJ BALA NABE UROSH KA MAM
IK BALAM TZAJ BALA UROSH KATIT KANKISHAJA

TZAJ BALA UKAJ KA MAM
BALAM MAJAKUTAJ TZAJ BALA UKAJ KATIT TZUNUNJA

Next They Kiss the Holy Mother Earth, because from Her We Come,
from Her We Enjoy Life, Within Her We Developed
and to Her We Return ; to the 'UKUSH KAJ ; UKUSH ULEW'

Then the Following Verse is prayed :

CH'ABAL

AKAROK LAL TZAKOL LAL BITOL
CHOJILA CHOJ TALA' MOJ TZAKLA
MOJ PISH KALIJ LAL KABAWIL
CHIKAJ CHO ULEU YALA RETAL KA TZIJ
BE KIJ KA BE SAK CH'AU ULOK
SAKIR LA ULOK KA KA TA RASH BE,
RASH JOK KO YA WILA LIAN AMAK
UTZ LAJ SAK AMAK UTZ LAJ KAS LEM WINAKIREM
PU KOJ YA WILA LAL RAKAN CH'IP KAKULJA
NANA WAK WOK JUN AJPU
TEPEU KUKUMATZ ALOM KAJOLOM
SHPIYAKOK, SHMUKANE KATIT KIJ KATIT
SAK CH'ULULOK SAKIRI ULOK

[are ri ojer ki ch'abal ri ka wi ka jolom ri mayib
ko ya pari lokaj wuj POP WUJ]

Concluding the Sentence, the Name of the Day is Invoked
in which one is carrying out the Ceremony,
as well as the Name of the Altar, Saying :

TZAJ LA NU LOKLAJ CHAKITEB NUJUYUBAL NU WAJ K CH'OB

They continue Invoking the Four AJAU, Saying :

TZAJ LA AJAU IK, AJAU KIEJ, AHAU E, AJAU NOJ

[The Year 2001 is Governed by the AJAU KIEB IK]

The Aj Tzib Job Kat is also Mentioned; for this It will be Said:

TZAJ LA AJ TZIB TZIKIN, KAT, TZI

After mentioning this, They are Thanked
and Asked for Forgiveness by the Aj Kij
Being in Front of the Sacred Altar
Because it is a Privelege after having been Elected
for the PATAN by means of LOKLAJ TZITE,
being a Mission or Service that has been Conferred upon Them

This is the moment of Placing the Offerings such as :
POM, HONEYCOMB, OCOTE and CACAO ;
so also DRY ROSEMARY and CINNAMON as Perfumes
before the Face of our Divinities

The use of Sugar and Candles are not believed Propitious,
because such Products do not come Directly from Nature,
for the Reason that They wish to maintain Direct Communication
as well as the Natural Order of Things ;

We for that reason say in Maya Kiche :
CHO TEW, CHO KAJIJ, CHO JAB

After placing the offering, They begin the Intercession,
Lowering to the Right Knee, while the Ceremony lasts

Because as our Grandparents said :
JO PA' JUNKA SHUKULEM MEJLEM ;
because the Size of the Ceremony doesn't matter,
They should maintain the Order and Sacrifice, since it is said :
CHO TEW, CHO KAJIJ, CHO JAB.

Invoking the Twenty Days of the Sacred Calendar,
Beginning on the Day in which One is making the Ceremony
For Example if we are in the Day : Job Kiej, it is said :

TZAJ LA JUN KIEJ, TZAJ LA KIEB KIEJ, TZAJ LA OSHIB KIEJ
[continuing until]
TZAJ LA OSHLAJUJ KIEJ

Continuing with the Following which would be the KANIL,
and so forth until They have mentioned the Twenty Days,
and the Thirteen Times, each one, according to the Following Order :

BATZ', E, AJ, ISH, TZ'IKIN. AJMAK, NOJ,
TIJASH, KAWOK, AJPU, IMOSH, IK, AKABAL,
KAT, KAN, KAME, KIEJ, KANIL, TOJ, TZ'I

The Name of the Sacred Altar is Greeted where They are,

for Future Carriers of the LOKLAJ TZITE ;
Saying :

JUN LAJUJ MAY, KABLAJUJ MAY, OSHLAJUJ MAY

Followed by RI OSHLAJUJ KALPUL,
continuing with RI OSHLAJUJ KAJOLESHEL

Likewise they should mention the Spirits of the Princes, Kings, etc.

TEKUM UMAN, MOKTESUMA, KIKAB,
OSHIB KIEJ, BELEJEB TZ'I

They Continue Saying the Nineteen Months of the Solar Calendar;
although at the Moment they are hardly Mentioned
Yet, being the Duty and Obligation of the AJ KIJAB to say them,
We give the Following Listing beginning with :

TZAJALAK TEW KAKIK ALAK
CHAJINEL RE AKAB,
