WACKY SELTZER TABLETS | Y2K bug | Don't ride with a Trojan Horse

50 Nifty Uses For Vinegar

A few Home Remedies

These are strictly for fun, not recommended to replace a doctor's diagnosis or suggested plan of treatment. If you use any of these ideas, it is strictly at your own risk of health. I take no responsibility for another's medical condition.

Headaches: Take a lime, cut in half and rub on your forehead. The throbbing will stop right away. Michealle, Texas

Mosquito bites: Apply soap on the bite for instant relief. Michealle, Texas

Mosquito bites 2: Apply paste made of baking soda and water. Sandy, Arizona

Athletes Foot: The trick is to soak your feet in bleach. Use about a cupful of bleach per gallon of water. Soak your feet for 2 or three minutes, making sure that the bleach reaches into all the infected areas. When you pull your feet out of the bleach, the athlete's foot is gone. It may take a week or so for all the cracks to heal, but the disease is gone. Now here is the problem. If you have a sensitivity to bleach, the cure causes far more damage than the athlete's foot. So this idea definitely needs a grain of caution! TL, Arizona

Splinters: When you get a splinter reach for the scotch tape before you resort to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the tape over the splinter, then pull it off. Most splinters will be removed painlessly. Becky, Texas

Bags under your eyes: For those dark bags under your eyes, cut a slice of cucumber and apply for a moment of refreshing relief. Debbi, Arizona

A few uses for those bubbly seltzer tablets

We owe all of these wonderful uses for alka-seltzer to a savvy Texas housewife,

A few remedies for the Y2K Bug

VCR - If your VCR has a year setting, which most do, you will not be able to use the programmed recording feature after 12/31/99. Don't throw it away and buy a new one! Instead, set it for the year 1972, as the days are the same as the year 2,000.

Win95/98/NT - For those of you running MS/Windows95, 98 & NT, this is a fix for a small Y2K problem *almost* everyone should do...

The check -- for those using Win95, 98 & NT:

Double click on "My Computer"> Double click on "Control Panel"> Double click on "Regional settings" icon. Click on the "Date" tab at the top of the page. Where it says, "Short Date Sample", look and see if it shows a "two digit" year. Unless you've previously changed it -- it does. That's because Microsoft made the 2 digits the default setting for Windows 95, Windows 98 and NT.

This date is the date that feeds *ALL* application software and will not rollover into the year 2000. It will roll over to the year 00. (*) Which could just as easily be seen as 1900 by your favorite application.

Click on the button across from "Short Date Style" and select the option that shows, "mm/dd/yyyy" or "m/d/yyyy". (Be sure your selection has four y's showing, not just two).

Then click on "Apply". Then click on "OK" at the bottom. You're all set. The 00 will indicate 2,000, instead of 1900.

Don't Take a Ride on a Trojan Horse

Hopefully, we all run virus software to catch any sniffles or bugs that try to infect our computers. But, new infections are created daily so don't forget to update your virus drivers often from the manufacturer of your software.

The trojan horse is a pesky little bugger that we usually don't even know that we've come in contact with until our "sent mail" shows that someone is sending from our mailbox besides us....And, usually, that someone is sending our screen-name and password right to his very own address every time we sign-on. Hence, gets onto our account while we are locked out!

Don't download programs or files from people you don't know. These nasty little files can ride in on these files.

Don't click on links from strangers! These, too, can be oh, so, tempting. Especially when the sender promises great riches, or peace of mind by leaving us alone if we just click and remove our selves from their lists. Nope. It doesn't work that way.

When you click their link, you are setting their trojan horse into action. It takes residence on your harddrive and mails the sender your screen-name and password every time you sign-on.

If you've become infected, there are many areas that offer free demos, sample software, etc., to clear your computer of this onry little bugs. A few software search engines are: www.softseek.com, www.nonags.com, www.hotfiles.com. You can type the word "virus" into the search windows and they will display downloadable files.

AOL offers help, hints and free software to purge these buggers at Keyword: virus.
