Preface

Grammar describes the way a language works in communicating ideas. It is the structure of the language the way words are put together to make sense. The sentences 'Ronnie chased the dog' and 'the dog chased Ronnie' use exactly the same words. Yet the way the words are put together makes a big difference in what they mean.

Grammar is constantly changing. It is not cramped by rules; neither is it totally unrestrained. Good English is comfortable to the speaker and the listener. The choices made by educated people determine what 'Good English' is.

The rules of English grammar can be learnt by practice and by getting a feel for what sounds right. So if,  you are confused about where to place a comma, or whether a word should have the article 'the' before it, and you struggle with verbs and adverbs, this site will make learning grammar smooth sailing, and interesting too!

These activities can be used with any school syllabus and alongside regular course books. Learning grammar does not have to be boring. This site is designed to make learning interesting. Believing in the adage 'practice makes perfect', this series, with its lively illustrations and pleasing layout, has plenty of exercises that will help strengthen language skills by unraveling the simple secrets of good English.
