Monmouth kicked off its 2001 Scholarship Fund in memory of our friend Tom Welter. The Scholarship Committee raised about $2500 on behalf of this year’s recipients Chris and Katie Welter. The team organized a Summer BBQ, sold Tim Welter Memorial T-shirts and held a raffle of Giants Tickets. (Donated by Gary Acquaviva) The Fund was augmented by direct donations from club members on behalf of Scholars. Ann, Chris and Katie send their thanks to the team. Laura Welter would like to Co-Chair future scholarship activities to make money available to other Member’s Children.
We still have about 15 Tim Welter Memorial T-shirts available. Anyone wishing to purchase one please see Jim Shaw. The cost is $20.00 and all proceeds will go to the Scholarship Fund.
We are in the process of registering every player who played for the Blue and Maroon. This database will permit us to develop a complete Team History, Player Statistics and contact list. The completed Access Database will permit us to identify candidates for the Yearly MVP Awards and our Monmouth Hall of Fame. You can Access the forms on the Monmouth Website. They have also been send to our E-Groups. Register Today. For Info contact: Jim Shaw jnsiv@aol.com
September will be Myths and Legends Weekend. Monmouth Alumni from the 70’s, 80’s, 90 and the present are invited to a day of activities at the game and back at the clubhouse. Set this day aside as a day for your family and your Monmouth Family.

The tournament was another success! It looks like we exceeded 10K in profit! Tom Tani’s passing of the torch to Brian Muller, as Tournament director was seamless. Big thanks to all of those who helped with the usual setup and breakdown. Thanks again to Tom Tani and his referees. The party was great thanks to the efforts of the Boathouse! Our thanks and praises continue toward Crown Beer Distributors for their contributions and support of the tournament.
Friday August 31, 7pm the recruiting party at the clubhouse. Both men and women will bring new recruits to the clubhouse for some beer, food, rugby, and if we’re lucky maybe a short 3 hour dissertation of the life and adventures of Lance Connolly and his rugby career.
September 8 kicks off the season at home against Lansdowne RFC. This season is very promising. Coach Paul Silverman is experimenting a new technique; “I want everyone to have fun this season”. With funny talker Chris Wilkins and that loveable Canadian who just can’t seem to find the right girl Mike Deutscher how can anyone NOT have fun? Best wishes to Kali, Walsh and possibly even to the Ass Man Ben Keiser (if he finds his way out of the cafeteria) when they move on to New York Rugby (this doesn’t exclude you from your dues to Monmouth!!!).
DUES, DUES, DUES, $75 for veterans and $50 for newcomers (both men and women). See Scott Cole the Sgt. At Arms. Checks are payable to Monmouth RFC.
The summer tournament wrap up….
The 7’s tourneys were not as strong as the past few summers; let’s work that out next spring.
Nelsonpalluza 2001 was beyond compare. Monmouth literally came, saw and kicked some ass. Then there was the tournament itself in Binghamton… the McGraw Fingerbangers/Monmouth RFC placed second for the 3rd year in a row.
Upcoming social and administrative events… October 27th the annual Halloween Party by Jim Shaw and company, December 2nd Annual General Meeting where you the DUES PAYING members can vote for officers and club policies.
October 7th there is a share holders meeting at the club house at noon
The club would like to extend their congratulations to Bruce and Vicki on the birth of their daughter Harleigh Knight MacBeth.
Get well soon Brian Muller… we love you.
Good luck at cop camp Pete “The Gnat” Malanga, hope to see you soon.
Our farewells to Moose (John P. Teevan) and Kristen Lupasakis (aka Mrs. Moose). Good luck in Cali. And Moose, for the love of God stay away from any fault lines you fat bastard.
Congratulations to ya’ll who are biting the bullet (getting married or engaged)… Scotty “Too Hotty” Cole and Stacey Wall, Tupac and the quiet riot Veronica, Mike “Uncle Buck” Kress and Liz, AJ and Monica, Chris the funny talker Wilkins and his funny talking fiancé Claire, The Profiler Walsh and Corey (let’s keep that positive reinforcement), Phil The Bourbon Cowboy and Christine, and Pete Gesell (Costanza) and Susan and we can’t forget Durty and Chubbyluv Silverman. Let’s hope Jay Peterson can continue with his Russian harem.
See you on the pitch,
Paden Cheeks
Secretary Monmouth RFC
The Monmouth Renegades are looking forward to doing well in the upcoming fall season. We had a good year last year, ending our fall season with winning the Division II NRU Championships and in the spring coming in 4th in the NRU Division I Championships. Losing a chance to go to the National Sweet Sixteen by a penalty kick against Boston.
We are in a rebuilding phase of the team this year, having lost many seasoned players within the past year. Several of our senior members have moved out of the area, to other states and other countries!!! Then of course we lost two from row players to pregnancies, but we now have two more women ruggers waiting in the wings thanks to Leeann and Vicki!
We are always looking for new players, so please keep your eyes open at the gym and other places and recruit, recruit, and recruit. We are practicing on Wed nights at 7:30 in Middletown.
We were also lucky enough to have one of our "rookies" play for the NRU under 23 select side team. Sarah Schillawski traveled with the team to the Midwest to play in a select side tournament and showed them how we do it in Monmouth!
