The historical area of Williamsburg plays host to many period shops. Located Shopping along Duke of Gloucester Streetalong Duck of Gloucester Street, 18th-century wares are created by modern craftsmen in the same tradition as their ancestors. From hand-wrought silver jewelry to potions created to ward off the plague, a fine sampling of Colonial goods are available. Greenhow and Tarpley's General Store offers most another that was needed for the household, and Raleigh Tavern Bake Shop pulls you in with the aroma of gingerbread drifting in the air.
At the end of the street is the Merchants Square. Designed in the layout of the Merchants SquareMarket Square from the early 1800's, this quaint mall has over forty stores and restaurants settled among plush foliage. Sprinkled throughout the antiques, handcrafted pewter, needlework supplies, country quilts, leather bond antiquarian books and prints, are modern shops, providing last minute supplies for the traveler from the pharmacy, camera shop and clothing stores.
