Masks
Identity lost,
Disclosed true self.
Conforming to others desires,
Suppressed behind a false exterior,
Praying that no one can pull it away.
Creating mold for each occasion,
Frequently interchanged,
But always there.
Becoming part of the skin.
Like being at a massive masquerade ball,
Everybody wearing a mask.
For it is easier to accept and live by the norm,
Than to defy it.
Social ideology,
Perceptions preconceived.
Individuality eradicated.
Without the mask,
Your true self taking precedence.
Confidence dwindling,
As the mirror manifests uniqueness.
Interested and intrigued,
Yet terrified and confused.
Mask re-established,
Once again part of the whole,
Part of society.
Escaped from reality,
But not the truth.
Fictitiuos illusions once shrouded,
Now discernible.
Perpetually wondering what's behind other's masks.
Waiting,
Silently waiting,
Until the time is right.
Until the light of truthfulness,
Shines upon all.
Realization setting in,
About the facade I render.
I wear the mask,
It does not wear me.
