Challenge and Better Choices Workshop
at Moor Park
|
A Mobility Challenge and Better Choices Workshop forum
was held at Moor Park on Thursday 28 February 2002 to give disabled people
a voice in transport and leisure issues in the North East.
The workshop was organised by Don Smith and Margaret
Wright, and was facilitated by Margaret Greico, Professor of
Transport and Society, Transport Research Institute, Napier University,
Stephen Little, Senior Lecturer in Knowledge Management, Open University
Business School and Rob Rolls, IT Volunteer at Moor Park Community
Centre. This was a very exciting meeting for Moor Park. There were 5 wheelchair
users in a group of 12 plus carers, who turned up for the workshop.
Although Moor Park does have full disabled access, we do not get many
wheelchair users accessing the Centre,we have never had as many as we
had at the workshop.
It was a really cold day but thanks to the volunteer ladies of Moor Park
we enjoyed a lunch which included home made soup and a bun. There was
a really friendly, happy atmospher throughout the whole day, it was nice
to see such a mixture of women and men from differing age groups.
Moor Park would like to thank all the organisers, volunteers, carers, Don
Smith and the Better Choices Group. It is hoped we can repeat the workshop
again at a later date.
