Our
research tells us there is a big problem for parents and grandparents
accessing public transport. When starting a journey on an easy
access or low loader bus it often breaks down and the exchange
bus provided is not an easy access one. This leaves the passenger
stranded with babies, toddlers, and shopping, struggling to get
home.
They
tell us that Transport Operators are assuming all prams and buggies
fold up easily, but do they? They also raise the issue of buses
running late or indeed not arriving at all.
For
example as I write this today (Tuesday 25th September at 12.30pm)
I have received information that the number 44 bus from Whitely
Bay to Newcastle that should arrive at 9.35 did not arrive instead
two buses turned up at 10.05. At the bus stop were 2 pensioners,
1 grandmother and her daughter who had a two year old baby with
them, by the time the bus eventually arrived the baby was crying
with cold. |
