January 19th - Plateaus & other stuff

Just got back from riding on my pushbike to my podiatry appointment.  I rode there in spite of the fact that I only had 4 hours sleep last night - dreadful headache kept me awake because laying down hurt my head.  So there is some extra metabolising happening as I sit and write (still a little puffed).  The other good thing of course is that I got my orthotics!  I am REALLY pleased to have gotten this done, as I have been threatening to do this for years but didn't get around to it until now.  They are very comfortable, and I'm hoping to be able to exercise with much greater vigour now that my feet won't be so sore.

I had another motorcycle lesson yesterday which went very well and I have my test booked for 9:30 next Wednesday.  All being well I should be zooming about independently this time next week.  EEeeek! This time next week will be last day off before going back to work.  I now feel as though looking after my health is a full time job!  No more ferreting about in supermarkets, experimenting with sauces.  However, I do know a number of things from the time I've spent.  I have at least a handful of no-preparation lo-point snacks that I can take to work with me.  These include fruit (obviously), rice crackers and salsa, rice cakes and vegemite, lo-fat muffins I have pre-cooked and frozen.  I really can't emphasise how happy I am with the changes I've been making (although I am bloody exhausted at the moment).

Anyway, I have a weekend coming up.  Plans include tennis on Sunday, bike practice on Saturday, and I'm hoping to squeeze in some rollerblading with Flopsy.  Tonight I'm meeting up with some people from my old work for some drinks, which will be good.  I need to make sure I don't have too many drinks - tho this isn't generally a problem for me.  Often as not I drink water, or diet coke.

Later same day ... I have been taking my weight between meetings (I know you're not supposed to), and I seem to have hit a plateau after dropping a few kilos in the first week.  I have been thinking about this, and I have also noticed that some of my normal 'functions' are less frequent.  I have therefore come to the conclusion that I'm not eating enough fibre and my metabolism is slowing. Therefore I need to definitely up the veges and fruit.  This is a hard one for me cause I don't like them that much, but I am going to give it a concerted effort.  Realistically, this is THE best change I can probably make for my health, because I really am lacking in a balanced diet, even though it's much better now than a couple of weeks ago.  So I got up and cooked myself some pumpkin and beans and sweet potato and worked my way through that.  You Go Girl!!!
