Sophie Aldred(Ace) taken early on.
Sophie Aldred, taken during the late 1990s.
Ace first appeared in Dragonfire, and lasted for the next two seasons as the 7th Doctor's companion. Ace never had a farewell episode, as the series was axed before she was due to leave next season. The 1996 TV movie did not feature Ace.
Personally, I liked Ace. She was amusing and complemented McCoy's devious Doctor with her forthrightness. She gave the monsters a run for their money and was brave too! A far cry from Mel.
Ace was a rebellious teenager from the 1980s, with a passion for chemistry, explosives in particular. Her favourite type of explosive was nitro-9, something she always carried with her, despite the Doctor's telling her not to. This has saved both of their lives numerous times. Ace was orignally found by the Doctor on Iceworld, having been taken from Perivale by a time storm. She proved to be an invaluable companion to the Doctor. In The Curse of Fenric, Ace's history was explained: she was one of the Wolves of Fenric, it was Fenric who had created the time storm, and it was Fenric who allowed Ace to save her own mother from death as a baby. Ace, however, broke free of Fenric and became a stronger person as a result. In the latter shows, Ghostlight, Suvival and The Curse of Fenric, the story tended to centre more around Ace than the Doctor, showing how important she was.
Ace appeared in: Dragonfire, Remembrance of the Daleks, The Happiness Patrol, Silver Nemesis, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, Battlefield, Ghostlight, The Curse of Fenric, Survival, Dimensions in Time.
Sophie Aldred played the role of Ace from 1987 to 1989. She has had many televison roles, including: Doctor Who, Corners, Rainbow, Eastenders and Zzapp, which she still stars in. In the theatre she has starred in: Underground Man and Lust (to name a few), and she also starred in the pantomime: Cinderella. She still attends many conventions and other events to do with Doctor Who. Sophie is a lovely person, and is very down-to-earth and is the perfect double-act with Sylvestor McCoy. And to where I met her? [altogether now] Bristol Bluebox 4 2001!
