"Screaming Jungle: CT review" Published in CT Number 287

Just a little note on CT 286’s articles, I know I like it when other people mention me, so I’ll do the same for them! Firstly, the Dimensions on Time advertisement, God I wish I could go (lack of money), that’s yet another chance to meet Nicola Bryant missed (I really hope she comes to Kulture Shock in Norwich at some point). Still, it looks impressive.

On to the articles then : Martyn Alner’s “It Pays to Advertise” was different in content, but pretty interesting all the same- just how do you knock up a T-shirt that fast?

Ben Latcham’s article on DVDs was staple stuff, but always good to read. Sadly, my own Caves of Androzani DVD doesn’t play on a PlayStation 2 without skipping scenes! And the BBC are unable to help, guess I’ll be buying another one later to see if it was just a faulty batch (it has great cover though Ben!) It’s always nice to see positive comment on the Colin Baker era, and James van-der Heiden evidently agrees with me. I totally agree with your points, except about the Apocalypse Element- it is the best Big Finish adventure yet, and thus the best Dr Who story of them all.

The Studio that Dripped Blood was interesting, but I didn’t realise it was a book until the end! (Sorry Graham Groom!)

Dangerous Game was also a good read, especially Paul Ballard’s interviews with Louise Jameson and Colin Baker, and his choice of Doctor and companion was also interesting. Personally, I think the 2nd Doctor and Peri (not for the obvious reason) would be my own choices.

I found the interview with Steve Roberts on DVDs to be very interesting, and I hope the website is just as helpful when I visit after sending this off!

Sarah Fowler’s article was … weird, but it gets you thinking. Question: what is Time Lord Chapter? (at which point I am denounced as a heretic by Who fans everywhere for not knowing!)

I’ll just skim through the remaining articles as they were all fairly short (sorry to those who wrote them, but this includes my own article too)- Darren Allen’s review of Bullet Time was standard fare- a good review, as was my own (modesty here), and although not a fan of trading cards, Darren Allen reviewed them well. Not being interested in religion, I skim-read his article on A Closer Look at Science Fiction. Aaron Edwards’ review of Death Comes to Time was short, but at least he did review it, no-one else did.

Mike Purser- you have my sympathy. I found it hard to believe that a convention would charge you for having your stuff signed! My only experience, BlueBox 4, was fantastic and very well run. Sure you paid for photos, but you got 3 for £10, and considering how many guests there were this seemed reasonable. But the differences between the excellent BlueBox and Basildon sound extreme! I look forward to reading their defence!

Sorry Chuck Foster, the cover was not the best ever done in my view (I think the CT Special, issue 283, is the best), but it gets marks for its originality though.

Thanks very much for the feedback Peter, and no dear readers, I didn’t bribe him for the last sentence! Karen [Davies, CT editor]
