The 8th Doctor: Paul McGann

The 8th Doctor has only appeared in the 1996 Telemovie at the moment, hopefully a new series will eventually materalise to continue this. The Telemovie has been criticised for being heavily Americanised, which is true, but it does stick to some old Doctor Who principles, such as the abhorrence of violence. It is unknown if a new series of Doctor Who will be made, and whether Paul McGann, Sylvester McCoy or someone else will play the Doctor. However, Season 27 does continue in audio form thanks to Big Finish, and the McGann CDs are now available.

McGann makes a good Doctor- somewhat more human than the rest, but still eccentric enough to be alien. I don't yet have any Big Finish adventures with him in, but I'll extend my opinion later. At the moment he stands at number 3 in my favourite Doctor's chart- though he could rise.

Paul McGann is currently signed with Big Finish to produce new Dr Who audios, in effect, Seasons 27 and beyond. Paul has also starred in many other films, Alien 3 is just one of them. He was also due to be Sharpe, but a broken leg whilst horse-riding prevented him from persuing that career, although it did allow him to play the Doctor.
