Post Draft Analysis
![]() |
Hurricanes: Added Andre Johnson, Rights to Stephen Davis & Seattle Defense; Traded Duce Staley, Giants Defense The Hurricanes add a quality receiver in Johnson and gave themselves an advantage with the rights to Stephen Davis. Moving Duce Staley away leaves them with only one RB on the roster, but gets rid of the burden of Staley's contract. More importantly, he has opened up some roster spots so he can be more active in the Aucion. |

Gryphons: Added Trung Candidate, Duce Staley, Giants Defense; Traded Rights to the Seattle Defense The Gryphons entered the draft with 2 solid QBs, 3 great WRs, a solid TE, K, and Defense, but only one RB. They fixed that by adding two starting RBs (quality unknown). They have a virtually complete roster, and only need to pick up a couple of backup WRs with the $2 they have left. |
![]() |
Hitmen: Added Charles Rogers; Traded Bubba Franks, Amos Zeroue The Hitmen add perhaps the best player in the rookie draft to help their weakest position from last year (WR). If Holt, Johnson and Robinson can be productive, the Hitmen will be a favorite to win a second consecutive title. |

Assassins: Added Isaac Bruce Traded Nobody (yet....) The Assassins were quiet, but added a quality WR that they lacked. Going into the auction, the Assassins will have one of the greatest surpluses of cash in the league, meaning they'll be able to target every one of the blue-chip free agents on the market. This team isn't only one of the top teams in their division, they could field a team that could dominate any team in the league. |

Ball Ho's: Added Baltimore Defense Traded Nobody Being away on holiday, the GM left his team to the mercy of a surrogate manager. That manager added arguably the best free agent defense. It's only for a year, but what cost the Ho's $12 last year is on their roster for $1 this year. Can't complain about that. After a few trades last year, the Ho's are ready for 2003 with a complete roster. The auction will be spent filling in backups at key positions. |
![]() |
StiffArms: Added Dallas Clark Traded Nobody For those that didn't know, there was a pretty intense evening of negotiations between the StiffArms and the Marauders (the offer came down to Couch & Stephen Davis for the #6 pick; the stumbling block was that the StiffArms also wanted the #12 pick). They decided that Clark was too valuable to leave to the chance of the Auction, so kept their pick and went with the rookie. |
![]() |
PhatBacks: Added Carlson Palmer Traded Nobody After releasing Brian Griese, the PhatBacks were looking for a QB of the future. Palmer was one of the highest ranked QBs in the rookie class, and while he won't be starting this year, he'll be a force for the future. Cincinnati has a good set of receivers, so he could deliver some decent returns when he gets the opportunity to play. |
![]() |
Rynos: Added Byron Leftwitch Traded Nobody Besides taking the very player that the Marauders coveted more than any other in the draft, the Rynos have added the QB that most analysts say will be one of the best QBs of the future. With a solid running game and receiving game, and a bit of a question mark at QB (due to injuries and inconsistency), the move was one for the future. $2 for 2 players in the auction puts him in the same dollar-store as Edwin... |
![]() |
Marauders: Added Willis McGahee, Ahman Green, Bubba Franks, Amos Zeroue Traded Anthony Thomas, Jerry Porter, Stephen Davis, Curtis Conway The most active team in the draft, made 3 trades. Unloaded the burdensome contract of Anthony Thomas, and said goodbye to their fan favorite Curtis Conway to add a quality tight end, a solid Running back and a RB for the future. Has very little cap money available, but with quality players at each position, will only have to focus on backups. |
![]() |
Tight Ends: Added Larry Johnson Traded Nobody With the uncertainty around Priest Holm's future, this was a must-do move for the Tight Ends. They have kept their roster virtually the same for 3 years, and have been the top scorer 2 years in a row. Will they be able to do it for 3 years in a row? |
![]() |
Chargers: Added Tommy Maddox Traded Nobody The Chargers fill one big hole with Tommy Maddox. While there are at least a dozen viable QBs available in the free agent auction, having Tommy on their roster reduces some of the worrying as to what QB will fall to them. |
![]() |
SmackDownSister: Added Anthony Thomas, Curtis Conway, Jerry Porter, Kyle Boller Traded Ahman Green, Antonio Bryant At the start of the Auction, SmackDownSister had very little cap space and had empty spots in the majority of their roster. In the boldest move to rebuild for the future, SmackDownSister traded their #1 RB for a plethora of players, and is working now on trying to resign their quality RFA's. It's going to be a long season, as Sister is probably the weakest team in the NFL Division, but in 2 years, he may be contending (especially from a different division). Boller will help bolster the great QB Sister already has, and will be a player for the future. |
