We're into the final stretch.  Here's how the divisions break down:

(note: "Magic number" means the number of wins or opponents losses required to lock down first place)

NFL CFL XFL Wildcard Next Year's Lottery
  • Chargers, Tight Ends and Hitmen are all vying for the top spot in the NFL, and all teams have a shot at it.  The Chargers magic number is 3 as long as he scores more points than the Tight Ends.

  • SmackDownSister has been eliminated from top-tier playoff contention.

  • All teams are vying for a playoff spot.  This division is wide open, but with close to a 100 point advantage in total scoring, the Rynos have the edge.

  • The Marauders & Assassins are competing for the top spot.  The Magic Number for the Marauders is only 2.

  • The Gryphons and Quiet Storm have been eliminated from top-Tier contention

  • The leading candidates are either the Marauders/Assassins (whoever doesn't finish first in the XFL), the Hitmen, and the Rynos if they should fall short of the CFL champion.

  • The front runners are SmackDownSister, the Gryphons and the Quiet Storm.  No team has assured themselves a ballot in the lottery yet.

Important Reminders:

  1. The trade deadline is prior to the week 11 games.  This is the LAST week to trade.  The actual date of the deadline is Friday November 14.

  2. The cap penalty for any player dropped before the last week of the season won't count against next year, but any player dropped AFTER the last game of the regular season (after the playoffs start) WILL count towards next year's cap.

  3. At the season end, you must cut down to 15 players on your roster; RFAs can be cut without penalty - any player under contract will cause a penalty to be applied.

Week 11 Match-ups

SmackDownSister (1-9) vs. Hitmen (4-6)

SmackDownSister can be the first to lock up a lottery spot with a loss this week.  Two injuries last week to Kyle Boller & Jeramy Shockey will leave Sister a little more thin, but the resurgence of Donovan McNabb may boost his team for the playoffs.  The Hitmen are in a must-win situation as they face elimination (they will be eliminated if they lose 2 games).  They still have a strong shot at the wildcard if they can be the highest scoring team, but will need better production out of Ricky Williams to compete there.

Chargers (6-4) vs. Tight Ends (5-5)

***Game of the Week*** This is a HUGE game for the Chargers who can almost lock up the NFL with a win over the Tight Ends this week. It should be a fair match-up as Rob's away on vacation and Tebbie might as well be.  Last week's star Rudi Johnson will be riding the bench as he's up against the improved KC Defense, so it will be Eddie George getting the start.  For the Tight Ends, the one man show Priest Holms will be going up against the Cincinnati Defense and should score a ton of points.

Rynos  (7-3) vs. Ball Ho's (5-5)

This is the closest race we have seen in this pool with 4 teams going for one spot.  The Rynos have a 100 point lead, but are up against the #2 scoring team in their division.  The Rynos finally got Marshall Faulk back, and although he only rushed for a few dozen yards, he did score twice which is what counts. The Ball Ho's will be sending a thank-you card to Edwin for missing a lineup error, and will almost have to sweep their games to win the division.  Corey Dillon has been relegated to fantasy backup duties (as he has been in real life) and the new star of the show is Domanick Davis who has averaged over 10 points per week over the past month.

PhatBacks (7-3)vs. StiffArms (6-4)

The PhatBacks have been VERY lucky this year, with opponents only scoring an average of 49.7 points per week (only the Marauders have had fewer points scored against).  But they now have a conundrum as they will have to decide which Min RB to start - Moe Williams or Michael BennettWho would have thought the return of a RB would actually HURT a team?  The StiffArms' team has been playing very well lately averaging 80 points the past 2 weeks thanks to Daunte Culpepper and the PhatBack's cast off Steve Smith.

Assassins (6-4) vs. Quiet Storm (2-8)

The Assassins are nearing must-win times, but can still make the playoffs as the wildcard.  They will have to win 3 of their next 4 (including 1 vs. the Marauders) to win the XFL. Last weekend was a horrible week for defenses as Minnesota got creamed by the Chargers, but the Assassins are hoping their #1 defense will rebound with a good game vs. Dallas.  The Quiet Storm are out of contention, but can watch the waiver wire and play the role of spoiler as they did last year.  The return of Chad Pennington and the emergence of Santana Moss gives them a very solid 1-2 punch, and he only has to watch one game.

Marauders (9-1) vs. Gryphons (2-8)

The Marauders are hoping to move one step close to winning their division as they take on the Gryphons.  Right now they stand to get the trifecta - division champion, #1 record, #1 points.  Ahman Green has been a super-stud for their team, but Mike Vanderjagt's performance can't be overlooked either (3 straight weeks of double-digit points).  The Gryphons had a disappointing loss last week with a roster error, but they are still in a good position to move into the lottery rounds. They have some tough match-ups with key players going up against top defenses, but do have Travis Henry vs. the Houston run defense (#29 overall).

Week 11 Transactions

The Commissioner's  Poll

Should scoring errors/corrections be adjusted?  So far this year, there have been numerous small scoring changes, and three big scoring changes.  Two of those changes resulted in a difference in win-loss between the two teams.  These changes can be for a number of reasons - Yahoo may have incorrectly scored an event (e.g. a fumbled interception picked up by the offense should only be return yardage but is initally scored a fumble recovery for the defense, it is later adjusted to remove the +2 for the defense), or it could be an official scoring change by the NFL (e.g. a lateral "pass" is changes from a pass to a run meaning the QB loses passing yards and the RB is awarded rushing yards instead of receiving yards).

Week 11 Results

SmackDownSister  66

Hitmen 65

Chargers 51

Tight Ends 31

Rynos 50

Ball Ho's 37

SmackDownSister wins their second game of the year by edging out the defending champions and all but eliminating the Hitmen's post-season hopes. Peter Warrick had a huge game with over 100 yards and two TDs (one return, one receiving) as the Bengals upset the Chiefs. The Chargers come one win closer to cementing their hold on the NFL championship with a win over their rival Tight Ends.  One more Charger win will ensure a post-season birth.  The Charger's team was lame except for Duce McCalister who accounted for close to half the Charger's scoring with over 225 yards and 2 TDs (and 2 lost fumbles). The Rynos take advantage of a PhatBacks loss and take a one game lead over the PhatBacks and StiffArms in the CFL. The Ball Ho's are still in contention but will need to win all of their remaining games to have a chance at the post season.  Shaun Alexander had a big game with over 125 yards and one TD on the day.

StiffArms 63

PhatBacks 57

Quiet Storm 80

Assassins 57

Marauders 91

Gryphons 41

The StiffArms win a HUGE game and move into a tie for 2nd place with the PhatBacks who are still winless in divisional games this year.  Daunte Culpepper had another big day with almost 400 passing yards, 40 rushing yards, 1 passing TD and 1 rushing TD (despite FIVE turnovers). For the second year in a row, the Quiet Storm plays spoiler and knocks a playoff-hopeful into the wildcard race (last year it was the Rynos).  The Quiet Storm win in convincing fashion with five double-digit performances including Chad Pennington's 220 yard passing & 3 touchdown performance against the Indianapolis Colts. The Marauders are the first team to clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Gryphons (coupled with an Assassins loss).  For the first time in three years, Edgerin James scores more than one TD in a game, and ends up with over 150 yards of offense and three touchdowns.
