Week 5 Matchups

SmackDownSister (0-4) vs. PhatBacks (2-2)
Two teams going in opposite directions.  SmackDownSister hasn't won a game yet, and the PhatBacks have won two in a row to tie for 2nd place in the CFL.  SmackDownSister will be hoping the San Francisco 49ers can turn it around and get Garrison Hearst running against the Detroit Lions defense.  The PhatBacks will also be watching that game to see if the SF defense can stop the Lions Offense.  But last week's hero Peyton Manning will be up against a much better team - the league's #1 defense in the form of the Tampa Bay Buckaneers.

Chargers (2-2) vs. StiffArms (2-2)

***Game of the Week***   Two teams tied for 2nd place in their division needing a win so they don't fall too far behind the leader.  The Chargers had an off week and will need the Tampa Bay Defense to come up big against one of the league's top offenses - the Colts.  The StiffArms will be looking for a QB as both Daunte Cullpepper may be out and David Carr is on a bye.  And with Clinton Portis questionable for this game... it will be a tough one for them to win.

Tight Ends (2-2) vs. Assassins (3-1)

The Tight Ends have made a few moves after a narrow victory last week to try to shore up an injury- riddled team.  The addition of Johnie Morton adds a 3rd receiver that they have really been lacking.  The Assassins, after being screwed last week by a non-start, will have to focus on their own game and continue to rely on Jamal Lewis to deliver the big points as he matches up this week head-to-head with Priest Holms.

Hitmen (3-1) vs. Marauders (4-0)

The Hitmen have become the league's highest scoring team last week edging out the Assassins and Marauders.  This week the go up against the Marauders head-to-head without their TE Todd Heap.  But with Rickey Williams and LaDainian Tomlinson on their roster, who needs a TE?  On the other side, the Marauders are riddled with injuries to their running corps again, with only one healthy running back (Ahman Green).  But Ahman is averaging 13 fantasy points a game and is ranked the #3 RB in the league.

Rynos  (4-0) vs. Gryphons (1-3)
The other undefeated team, the Ryno's came off a narrow victory against one of the league's weakest teams, but got a decent performance out of replacement running back Shawn Bryson.  This week they get Shaun Alexander back who goes up against the Packers defense - a team that allowed over 100 yards to Anthony Thomas!  The Gryphons are also dealing with injury woes and have lost 2 QBs and one star RB to injuries in the last 2 weeks.  They hope that the addition of Jon Kitna will fill the hole.

Ball Ho's (1-3) vs. Quiet Storm (0-4)

The Ball Ho's fell from 2nd place to 4th place in their division due to a christening they had to attend.  This week, they will probably set their lineup before Sunday morning (psst - Bruce to bench, pick up a defense!).  Tiki Barber is back, but running against the Miami Defense.  But with Randy Moss going up against the Atlanta Falcon's defense, they may not need any more to overcome the winless Quiet Storm.  The Quiet Storm put up decent numbers last week (6th highest scoring team) but were up against the Hitmen's juggernaught.  So far they are also short two players (K & TE) but with Rich Gannon playing the Chicago defense, they may not need 'em.

Week 5 Results (to be confirmed Tuesday night)

PhatBacks 67

SmackDownSister 54

Chargers 62

StiffArms 56

Tight Ends 57

 Assassins 48

The PhatBacks overcome a strong week by SmackDownSister to win their game.  The top performer in this matchup was Drew Brees who passed for over 300 yards and threw 3 TDs without a single turnover.  SmackDownSister had his best week with a second strong performance by Anthony Thomas. What a comeback!  Down by 20 points going into the Monday Night Game, the studs of the Chargers come back with 36 points on Monday night to edge out the StiffArms and move into a tie for 1st place in the NFL.  The big players for the Chargers include Marvin Harrison who caught over 175 yards and 2 TDs and the Tampa Defense who also scored 2 TDs. UPSET!  The Tight Ends who for the second week in a row leave a roster spot empty defeat the #2 scoring team in the league thanks almost entirely to the efforts of Fred Taylor  who accounted for almost half of her team's fantasy points with 164 total yards and 2 touchdowns.

Marauders 73

Hitmen 38

Rynos 83

Gryphons 33

Ball Ho's 85

Quiet Storm 29

In a must-win game, the Marauders overcome the Hitmen (must win because Tom would be gloating about it all year).  Once again, the best acquisition of the offseason - Ahman Green comes through with a huge game gaining 125 yards and scoring two touchdowns.  The Hitmen had the following comment on his loss:  "FU" The only other undefeated team, the Rynos crushed the Gryphons thanks to a near record performance by quarterback Steve McNair who threw for almost 400 yards,  rushed for almost 20 yards and two touchdowns and threw a two point conversion.  Talk about someone doing it all! What a difference a full roster makes.  Well, maybe not.  Emmitt Smith got only 1 yard of offense, but the Ball Ho's didn't need him to beat the very Quiet StormRandy Moss lead the way once again with two touchdowns to go along with over 80 yards of receiving.  There is no doubt who the best receiver in football is.
