Week 8 Match-ups

Rynos  (6-1) vs. Marauders (6-1)
***Game of the Week***  The two top teams in the league will square off against each other this week after the Marauders lost their first game of the season.  The Rynos will be fielding a full lineup and have some marvelous running match-ups with Shawn Bryson vs. Chicago and Shaun Alexander vs. Cincinnati (the team Portis set a new NFL record against).  The Marauders will be without Ahman Green (bye) but will have Edgerrin James back after a month missed due to injury.  Edge will be running against the Houston defense who is ranked #18 vs. the run.

Chargers (4-3) vs. Ball Ho's (2-5)

The Chargers made the first move of the season adding Bryant Westbrook to help their running attack.  Westbrook (who has been averaging over 10 fantasy points a week for the past month) will probably get the start this week as he goes up against the lowly New York Jets run defense.  The Ball Ho's, who received a back-dated loss from 2 weeks ago have fallen from contention and are now in the basement of the CFL four games behind the leader.  They will also be without a number of starters this week as 6 players are on a bye.  On the bright side, Corey Dillon is back and played very well last week.

Tight Ends (4-3) vs. Quiet Storm (1-6)

The Tight Ends had a chance to pull away in the NFL and blew it by sitting two players for the second time this season.  Despite that, they are still tied for first, but in the bottom four in points scored.  This week, most players are back from their bye weeks, and Joe Jurevicius will likely return to the Tampa lineup.  The Quiet Storm are quietly having another one of those seasons.  They are one point ahead of SmackDownSister in points scored for 2nd last in the league, but have a great strength at quarterback as Chad Pennington (back from IR) joins the #2 overall QB Brad Johnson.  Too bad you can only start one QB...

No, there are no better pictures of this kicker

Hitmen (3-4) vs. Assassins (5-2)

The Hitmen have fallen out of first place after losing three in a row and are now behind two teams in the NFL.  They now have to face the 2nd toughest team in the league in the middle of a murderous schedule (the combined record of the past opponents is 22-6). They can only hope that their luck will change and that the new acquisition of the Venerable One Gary Anderson will deliver some points to put them over the top.  The Assassins have won two in a row and have a chance to move into a tie for first in the XFL with a win this week. Another team stacked with QBs, Marc Bulger (the #5 ranked QB) will soon have Michael Vick at his side.

SmackDownSister (0-7) vs. StiffArms (4-3)
Curse of the Bambino?  Curse of the Billy Goat?  Talk about Curse of the Bruce!  Since waiving Isaac Bruce, Sister has not won a game, and his best players from last year (Donnovan McNabb and the Eagles Defense) act like Austin Powers without his mojo.  What's good to say?  They have an extra draft pick and project to have one of the top four picks next year.  The StiffArms are quietly putting together a decent season and are only 2 games behind the division leading Rynos.  They will have a tough week this week as Portis goes up against the Baltimore defense and Pittman goes up against the #1 rush defense in the league: The Dallas Cowboys.

PhatBacks (5-2) vs. Gryphons (2-5)

After losing their first two games, the PhatBacks have gone undefeated and are challenging for the top spot in the CFL.  This week they get Peyton Manning back from his bye week and have their star RB Moe Williams up against the weak New York Giants defense.  The Gryphons surprised everyone last week by becoming the league's highest scoring team for week 7 thanks to the career best game for Terry Glenn.  That win vaulted the Gryphons into the middle of the pack in points scored.  They will have to add another RB as they only have one starting on their roster, but it seems every time they pick up a fullback, the stat line reads 1 carry, 1 yard, 1 TD (Zach Crockett last week).

The Ryno Poll

Which QB do you think should be entered into the Hall of Shame based on his past week's performance?
Donnovan McNabb (64 yards, 1 Int, -1 rushing yard = 0.23 fantasy points)
Drew Brees (74 yards passing, 1 Int = 0.48 fantasy points)
Rich Gannon (58 yards passing, 1 Int = 0.16 fantasy points in ONLY ONE HALF!).
Abbot & Costello in Detroit - Harrington & McMahon combined for 81 yards and 3 Ints = -1.38 fantasy points
Crystal Chris Chandler (149 yards, 2 Ints, 2 pt conversion = 2.98 fantasy points)  Option removed - Chandler is too good to be on this list

The Commissioner's Poll

So far we've been going with 2 IR slots.  These have mostly been used to hold players that were out either for the season or for a few weeks.  Now I'm wondering (as are others) if we should continue to have 2 IR slots, or if it should just be 1.  The other thing is what status should a player be to qualify for IR?  Should it be likely they won't play (as it is now - out or doubtful) or should they definitely be out?

I will be changing one rule starting next year:  That if a player's situation changes outside of our guidelines (either out or out/doubtful) then they can not be kept on the IR.  This year they can be kept on the IR until they play in a game.

What should the IR policy be next year?

Keep the current rule (2 slots, player must be listed as Doubtful or Out); if the player's status changes to questionable or better, they must be activated immediately.
Cut down to one slot (player must be listed as Doubtful or Out); if the player's status changes to questionable or better, they must be activated immediately.
Two slots and the players must be listed as Out to be eligible; if the player's status changes to doubtful or better, they must be activated immediately.
One slot and the player must be listed as Out; if the player's status changes to doubtful or better, they must be activated immediately.

Week 8 Results

Marauders 76

Rynos 71

Ball Ho's 61

Chargers 42

Tight Ends 61

Quiet Storm 49

In a very close game, the Marauders defeat the Ryno's and stay one game ahead of the Assassins in the XFL.  Ike Hilliard had his second two-TD game of the year to go along with 100 yards receiving to lead the Marauders in scoring.  On Monday night, the Miami defense also came up big with 6 sacks, 3 ints and 1 saftey Talk about a lucky break:  The Ball Ho's go into the game forgetting to check their lineup and start 3 players on a bye (including a Kicker, TE and WR).  They also forget to activate Corey Dillion and leave Dominic Davis in their starting lineup.  Result: Dillon gets in a car accident on the way to the game and Davis goes on to pile up 126 yards and 2 TDs. Some teams just can't be beat. The Tight Ends once again fail to submit a complete lineup but win the game anyway thanks to a phenomenal game by Priest HolmsHolmes had over 100 yards and scored 3 TDs.  The Tight Ends are now in sole possession of 1st place in the NFL.

Assassins 106

Hitmen 67

SmackDownSister 57

StiffArms 37

PhatBacks 44

Gryphons 32

The Assassins score over 100 points for the second time this season.  He had 6 players in double-digit scoring, but Saturday night acquisition Arlen Harris lead the team with close to 100 yards and 3 TDs.  I think this will be the first time in the league a weekly MVP (and player who scored over 20 fantasy points) will be dropped immediately after the feat. After trading one of his better backs (who leaves the game with an injury this week), SmackDownSister scores over 50 points for the second week in a row to down the StiffArms. Reggie Wayne had a huge day with over 100 yards and two scores. With an unbelievable streak of luck, the PhatBacks win their third game scoring less than 50 points (only 8 out of 96 games have been won by a team scoring less than 50 points).  Peyton Manning accounted for almost 1/3 of the PhatBacks points with 3 TDs and over 250 yards passing
