2004 Schedule of events

The next event will be the player waiver period.  During the week of August 2-6, you will have an opportunity to release players on your roster that are under contract without incurring the penalty.  The condition to release a player under these circumstances are that (1) the player may not be signed by any NFL team at that time and/or (2) the player has retired from football.  Players released this way will go into the unrestricted free agent pool.

The Auction will be held on Saturday August 21 at 1:00 at the Elephant and Castle on King Street East.  I will confirm this closer to the date.  If possible, mark this date off on your calendar so that it gets first priority with anyone else running your life (oops - did I say that?).

2004 Rookie Draft Results

Quiet Storm

Tatum Bell - RB (Den)  With the first pick of the 2004 Rookie Draft, the Quiet Storm selects the next Terrell Davis; the next Mike Anderson; the next Olandis Gary; the next Clinton Portis... the NEXT DENVER Running back.  Here's hoping that Quintin Griffen and Garrison Hearst don't steal all the carries.

Hooligans

Eli Manning (NYG):  The new management of the Gryphons picks up where the old owner left off and starts to build his team around a solid QB.  This one will take a few years to develop, but is a solid choice for the future.

Hitmen

Julius Jones (Dal): Starting out the year with a Dallas running back is prime on the Hitmen's list.  With all their star running backs at the end of their contracts, the Hitmen were in need of a quality back.  All Jones has to do is beat out Troy Hambrick, which I think most of us could do.

SmackDownSister

Kevin Jones (Det): The first pick of SmackDownSister goes to what should be a starting running back by opening day.  Although Detroit has about 17 RBs on the roster, including two that have run for over 1000 yards in a season, no RB has been able to break more than a few hundred yards behind the Detroit Rock Wall.  Funny... the opposing DL seems to find more holes than Detroit RBs do...

Yourmomsapunter

Larry Fitzgerald (Ari): Arizona is loaded with Wide Receivers, and picked another one despite not having a QB or a running attack.  That's ok - because Fitz is going to be their Super-star Randy Moss.  He will hopefully invigorate the aging Mambas receivers (did Jerry Rice retire yet?) and beat out Boldin, Johnson and Gilmore for the #1 WR slot.

StiffArms

Kellen Winslow (Cle): What's with all the TEs?  First Heap, then Shockey and McMichael, and now Winslow is the next big thing on the end.  He'll line up next to last year's #1 pick for the StiffArms Dallas Clark.  Anyone wanting to make a trade, call Sean at 955-555-5555.  Vikings preferred.

Ketchup Hotdog

Ben Watson (NE): Who?  I dunno.  Only picture I could find on the web was one of him sitting on the bench.  Can't be a good sign....

StiffArms

Roy Williams (Det): Two offensive players from the Detroit Lions going in the rookie draft?!?!   Wow - either Detroit's offense is going to rock, or they're just so bad that they're picking up good players.  With Rogers on the other side, Williams may have a huge season.

Marauders

Steven Jackson (StL): The riskiest pick in the draft, and followed by a failed offer of Ahman Green for Marshall Faulk, perhaps the best backup in the league.  Marauders are keeping up the tradition of having at least one running back on their roster who won't be starting.  That plan worked so well last year that this year he's got two!

SmackDownSister

Lee Evans (Buf): Check out that picture to the right.  That's one of the best catches in college ball ever.  Evans could be the guy missing in Buffalo to make the offense go like 2002.  Who knows... he could steal the job from Eric Moulds!

Assassins

Reggie Williams (Jac): Jacksonville finally gets a #2 WR.  Things are looking good for the offense there.  Williams will line up with the Assassins' Chad Johnson & Darrell Jackson to make a pretty impressive receiving corps.  Seems like the Assassins have a pretty full roster already!

Rynos

Chris Perry (Cin): The Rynos pick up a RB for some future insurance.  They won't have Shaun Alexander for $1 anymore, but Perry may be just as good - if he can get the full time job.

Transactions, post-season

There are no more drops allowed until after the auction (with the exception of the first week of August when you are allowed to release any player not currently signed to an NFL contract).  Trades are allowed all the time.

Polls

Check the Ryno Poll Link at the top to see the results of past polls.

There will be a few rule changes:

  1. Draft Ballots will be determined based on BOTH Post Season performance (like 2003) AND Regular Season Standing (like 2002)

  2. The prize for "Most Points" will include Post-Season Performance.
