Is this conference going to have an impact on the policies of the Ecuadoran Government? I hope so, but the policy of Ecuador is slow and it is conditioned by foreign powers. I trust in the ability to mobalize the citizens. From the government we can expect good will, positive acts and also great disappointments. But the future, the new government, is citizen politics. As one person said this afternoon, the counter-power, to oppose decisions, for the citizens to participate in life-affecting decisions. We're going to maintain a dialogue with the government. We want to maintain it and in a sense this conference is going to help us. But I don't think the government is going to resolve the problem. The problem is going to be resolved here if we are capable of working together. ### |
