GOALS - Having two days with your horse is the key element to best reach goals. Allowing your horse to "soak" overnight and using the consecutive second day of progressive reinforcement helps put “things together". Building confidence and instilling safety in a fun atmosphere is priority. Setting boundaries on the ground/in the saddle to build confidence/develop respect to prepare your horse to be more available & safer. Demonstrations of balancing firmness & fairness with when & how. Explanations - examples – demonstrations - and at times Ellie may handle or ride the horse if you wish.
It is all about developing further, the journey of partnership & mutual respect and attaining goals together.
My focus for myself, applying what I learned
with “Natural”
to advance my dressage scores & reining
skills.
SIZE - Small !!! To allow personalized specific attention with each participant, limit 6.
FORMAT - The format starts out with individual time with each horse and owner to address specific needs. Depending on class needs/desires will continue individual sessions and/or as a group. Each workshop is progressive & designed to enter at any stage based on you/your horse’s understanding.
HANDS ON - I will have one of my Moriesian horses available to demonstrate lightness & communication.
Participants & auditors can then have “hands
on” opportunity to explain what words can‘t.
Tom Dorrance- Ray Hunt- Buck Brannaman- Richard Thompson- Dave Seay- Pat Parelli- Mike Beck- Leslie Desmond- Terry Church– Frank Grelo– Jeff Griffith– Joe Woulters-Lynn Palm.
For me, natural horsemanship/training is about fairness & philosophy of interacting with horses that goes far beyond training. “There is nothing natural about natural training for the human, but it’s everything to the horse.” Developing feel -universal to all horses receives quick & long lasting results applys to ALL riding disciplines. We think so differently–the journey learning/using their body language & herd dynamicsis so fascinating & fulfilling.
Feel
& Finesse Outline: Goal
is to understand & apply; then refine for effectiveness, move on to condense
& use less aids in riding and groundwork. Start removing braces and
resistance to reach goals. Emphasis
will be developing the quality of communication through feel & fineness.
The foundation we establish on the ground will be used to transfer to the
same understanding in the saddle, to connect the reins to the feet and prepare
for collection. Advancement - *True straightness is a privilege earned – *Forward
is the key to straightness and straightness is achieved by bending. *Eliminate
ground work - How to check into your horse’s mind in seconds before
mounting. *Using outside rein whether you’re riding english or western.
*The value of "pretty circles" Falling
in-falling out defined & corrections. *Use foot-fall or “cadence” to
advance.

SUMMERY OF 2003 WINTER WORKSHOP: Despite the bitter cold, we had a fun at our last workshop, going through 3# of hot chocolate and countless foot warmers to help us brave off the weather. Two die-hard auditors Kristy and Ida, bundled up and stayed to the end both days even when Kristy was fighting off the flu. Everyone agreed whole heartily, the second day was the key element that put things together for them and the results of having a two-day workshop was obvious. Previous one-day workshops seemed to me, enough to get a person aware with many questions. I was curious to see if the second day was as much help as I thought it would be. Various horses that were used to "taking over" - needed some firmness in the beginning and the next day; tended to need instead - a higher awareness to catch them earlier and be softer. Being in a location other than home did not bring out the best in some horses and then were dealt with individually. Having the second day to practice and build brought more confidence and understanding in the horses and humans. It was expressed to continue with this small size group by all. Playing more games to apply what we learned was another request. I used a different horse the second day for demonstrations and exercises without realizing the benefits. It was requested to bring the second day when possible, a horse at a different level of training to show how each one is handled and acts differently. Trying to explain feel is almost impossible, sometimes a horse can demonstrate more than words can say. Both auditors and riders had hands on work with my horse to feel the lightness & what I try to convey. Comments on lessons and workshops *By
knowing how to ride and work with a horse... it helps me learn softness
and how to be firm in life. Nichole - Green Bay Feel
