"My role is only to the point when judgment is passed on the case...I won't be by your side forever....when the truth is revealed, that's when it ends...because I'm a lawyer..." Kirino tells Nao gently....

Akiko hands Ami her cell phone "It was found in the hospital...& was sent here..." Ami asks "By who?" "The security guards....said it was left behind in the lobby....." Ami takes it "I probably left it there the last time I had a cold & visited the hospital...." "If you want to ask something go ask your father directly...." "Eh?" "The details of how the mother of the okonomiyaki restaurant died...you want to know, don't you...." "He won't tell me the truth..." "It's ok with you that our hospital is badly thought of? You believe that boy more than your father?" Ami doesn't reply....

Runa slides the door to the garden open "Wasuke, good morning..." & then going to the altar & looking at her mother's photograph "Mom, good morning...." putting her hands together......

In the kitchen preparing breakfast, Nao tastes the soup "Uhm...tastes pretty good...." Yuko quietly asks "Why did you lie?" "Hm?" "That she stole the medical records because you asked her to...that you were the one in the wrong...why?" "I understand her mother's feelings of anger...her own daughter seeing the one who's suing the hospital...it would be strange if she wasn't annoyed..." As Nao brings the pot to the table, Yuko says "If you understand the feelings of others like that...wouldn't it be better if you stopped?...do you like her that much?" Nao replies "I don't like her....I can't like her any more than I do now...." Yuko looks at her brother in silence....

As everyone cleans up for the day, the door slides open "Good evening..." Shiro replies "Sorry, we're closed for the night...." before looking up to see Ikezawa greet them "Pleased to meet you...I'm a lawyer...Ikezawa...." Yuko calls for her brother "Nao..." & he comes out to see Shiro take Ikezawa's business card "Is there anything?" Ikezawa explains "We've come to apologize once again...." Nao walks up "Apologize?" Ikezawa, with Minami standing next to him, replies "To apologize for leaving the mesu behind..." Minami bows in silence as Nao says "Doing that now..." Ikezawa says to Runa "Minami-sensei came to apologize to your mother...." Runa asks "Because he operated on her?" Ikezawa goes "Hm?" Runa says "He operated on her stomach by mistake didn't he...." Minami asks "Who said that?" but Runa merely says to him "Liar! Liar!" Yuko calms her down "Runa...." & Nao tells them "Please leave...." Ikezawa looks at Nao "You're rejecting our apology...." Nao returns the stare as everyone else remains silent....

"They'll come back again for sure..." Kirino, sitting at her desk tells Nao at the office "...it's an underhanded scheme to give the courts the good impression that they tried repeatedly to apologize...it's something Ikezawa would do....that hospital intends to cover up for Dr Minami...." Nao says hesitatingly "Uhm...the one at fault is Minami-sensei & not the entire hospital...." Kirino replies "The defendants are Dr Minami & Shoei Sogo Hospital...." Nao adds "Towards Shoei Sogo Hospital....I..." & Kirino finishes the sentence for him "...don't have anything against them?" When Nao doesn't say anything, Kirino walking to the sofa & taking a seat, asks "Because you feel sorry for her?" Nao just looks at Kirino in silence. Kirino asks "Why couldn't they identify who your mother was?" Nao finally replies "Because she was in such pain that she couldn't speak..." "After being brought in to the hospital, if it was appropriate medical treatment, you don't think they would've at least been able to ask for her name? Supposing she was in such pain that she couldn't speak, just putting a patient like that on a drip of painkillers & under observation is strange...thinking about it, after being brought in she'd be immediately operated on....no exchange of words with anyone & then died...or perhaps no one asked & she was left neglected for a while...however her condition suddenly took a turn for the worse & in a panic, operated on...." Nao goes take a seat on the sofa across from Kirino "So they neglected people being brought in in the ambulance...." Kirino states firmly "Because they did something they shouldn't have done & they're intent on hiding it! That's why the hospital completely denies it, putting up a fight...if your mother wasn't sent to that hospital she could've been saved....Shoei Sogo Hospital stood by & let your mother die!" Nao merely stares back at Kirino, unable to say a word. Kirino continues "But they say this...that their treatment of your mother was correct...that they wholeheartedly did everything they could...they didn't do anything wrong....in people's hearts....in people's actions there's definitely good & evil...they assert that they are all goodness...& pursuing the fact that we are the ones that are bad....they, Dr Minami & Shoei Sogo Hospital both...." Nao looks at Kirino, unable to say anything.....

Nao sees someone at the door & as he approaches it, hears Minami's voice "Good evening...I'm sorry, this time of the night...." Nao stops in his tracks, thinking & coming to a decision....

Nao walks to the door & slides it open. Minami says "Good evening....uhm, at least let me...." Before he can continue, Nao says "Please...come in...." Surprised, Minami stares at him before replying "....yes...." Nao shoes Minami insides...

In awkward silence around the table, Minami asks "Where's your father?" Yuko answers "He's gone to meet with the people from the shopping area...regarding the summer festival...." Minami says "The one that my hospital is sponsoring? Your shop is the only one left out....they're cruel too aren't they, the folks from the shopping area...wow.....wow....." & then stops short as Yuko & Nao merely stare back at him in silence. Turning to Runa, Minami says "About that..." & turning to Nao, continues "...operating on your mother's abdomen...certainly the subject of that operation did come up....but that's was trying to pin down the cause of the illness from all possible angles.....that sort of discussion came up...but really operating on her abdomen preposterous..." To Runa, Minami says "I have a child as old as you....during days off we'd play catch ball or soccer....we play together....that's why....when you called me a liar, I was really quite shocked...." Runa looks away, Yuko comforting her. Nao quietly asks Minami "Could you make an offering to my mother?" Minami looks at him, surprised...Yuko looks at Nao, not saying a word....

As Minami lights a stick of incense at the altar, he says "It's a nice photograph...first time I see her smile..." As Minami puts his hands together, Nao asks "What sort of illness did you suspect she had...& discussed the operation?" With a heavy sigh, Minami replies "choukanmaku kessenshou (mesenteric thrombosis, ie coagulation of blood in the mesenteric arteries)....but that wasn't the case...." Turning around to face the family, Minami tells in earnest "Your mother didn't die because of an error in medical treatment....I really am innocent...." Nao, Yuko, Runa stare at Minami, unsure whether or not, to believe in him.....

At the Isetani home, Isetani Keizo explains to Ami "Everything Minami-sensei did was appropriate...immediately brought Teruko's condition under control, & then quietly observer her....she died suddenly without us knowing the cause... could only say she died of karoushi....in the beginning she complained of pain in her abdomen but the examination results showed nothing was wrong....could be because of stress & overwork...." As Akiko serves coffee, she says "Ami, even when you're in a situation you don't like, you often say that you have a stomach ache....that's the same thing...." Ami asks "Did you explain everything properly to Nao when she died?" Isetani replies "His father at that time, accepted everything...." Taking a seat next to her daughter, Akiko says "There are people like that....patients that say all sorts of things after the fact...." Ami retorts "But in Nao's case, there was a mesu!" Akiko replies "That...common sense would mean that it should've been sent to the police...." Isetani adds "Ami, he came & grabbed me all of a sudden ...." Shocked, Ami goes "Eh?" Isetani explains "Late at night, coming without notice....his father rolling drunk....that boy also took on a defiant attitude...I went to receive them but he came at me wanting to hit me..." Ami looks at her father in disbelief "No way...." but Isetani tells her "Good thing the security guards came to stop him...." Ami says "But! But if someone's mother just suddenly dies, anyone would...." Isetani breaks her off "If they were doubtful about the cause of death, it would have been better if they hadn't refused the autopsy...." Ami mutters "Refused?" Isetani tells her "Despite Minami strongly suggesting it..." Akiko adds "If the autopsy had been performed, the cause of death could've been cleared up....if they had more intelligence & education, this would've been resolved much quicker....you don't think that as things stand, they are at fault?" With both parents having an answer to everything, Ami finds herself at a loss for words.....

At the sake shop, Torii says "..but there are a lot of shops in the area that are being taken care off by the hospital....the florist, noodle shop, Yoshida's store & stand selling nimoyoukan (a bar of sweet potato)...Kashiwano's laundry store too....in principle we don't have a choice....we can't show that we are fighting against the hospital....that's why...we'd like if you don't show up for the summer festival...." Without a word, Shiro gets up & takes some money out of his pocket, leaving it in payment. As he walks out, Kashiwano says "I hear that Nao's making a play for that hospital's "daughter"...." Shiro asks "Who said that?" Kashiwano spits out "Suing them on the one hand...just what is he doing...." Hearing that in anger, Shiro lunges for Kashiwano, grabbing him by the collar & growls "Who said such nonsense! What those fellows say, can you take it seriously?!" At that moment, Kota walks in to hear his father tell Shiro "The way I see it, those doctors & nurses are brilliant...." Torii butts in "Stop it..." but Kashiwano merely continues "If I were his father I'd stop it! Causing trouble fighting with the hospital, it's not for kids to do!" Kota speaks up "Because he's a kid that's why he can do it...." All of them turn around & notice Kota for the first time. Kota explains "Because he's a kid, that's why he doesn't have the chains like you do.....that's why he's giving it all he's got.....being an adult, one can't do that...." Kota walks up to his father "Dad, let's go home...." & as he leaves, Shiro says "Kota, thank you...thanks...."

At home, Nao recalls what Minami said & researches on the medical term "choukanmaku kessenshou....your mother didn't die because of an error in medical treatment....."

Nonaka enters the office to find Kirino on the phone "...that's not my intention...I understand, good bye..." Nonaka puts an envelope on Kirino's desk "I've checkup on Minami's reputation....both his career record & performance records aren't bad....because he's good in his field of the digestive system, patients even transfer hospitals seeking treatment from him...." Kirino looks at the documents "I've heard of his skills....but how come you...?" Nonaka replies "Coming to this stage, I should help out too....I'm also checking up on Shoei Sogo Hospital's reputation...." Kirino smiles "Sorry, thanks...." Nonaka picks up a document from Kirino's tabls "What's this?" Kirino sighs "Looking for an expert medical opinion...it's tough....even if they're willing to talk to me, they're not willing to get on the witness stand...." Nonaka doesn't understand "But..." Kirino gets up "Looks like I've got talk to them directly...." Nonaka stares at the document..."List of authorized doctors specialized in respiratory system surgery". Kirino takes it back from him "I have my own ideas...." Nonaka looks on thinking as does Kirino....

Kirino goes out, asking for directions. Coming to a small building, she sees a sign that says "Kawabe Hospital - surgery & pediatrics". As Kinino approaches the door, she sees a notice stuck on it "Due to unforeseen circumstances, the hospital is temporarily closed, Kawabe Hospital" With a sigh, Kirino turns to leave & at that moment, the door opens & a young man coming out, notices her "Excuse me?" Kirino turns around & the young man asks "Is there anything?" Kirino tells him "I'd like to see the director of the hospital...." but the young man replies "My father just passed away...." "Eh?"

Walking into the hospital, the young man says "Error in medical treatment?" Kirino tells him "I wanted to ask your father's opinion...." "Why my father?" "Your father once provided expert advise in court regarding a case of medical treatment error didn't he..." "Yes...but my father specialized in the respiratory system...." "I know that..." "But the patient who died....you suspect it's got to do with the abdomen?" "I think it's not the abdomen....suddenly calling in on you, sorry...on top of that, not knowing about your father's passing...." "It's ok..." "Good day...." As Kirino walks off, Kawabe says "Uhm...if you don't mind...." Kirino looks surprised & he continues "I'm still a student but....I'm following in my father's footsteps, that's why I'm studying about the respiratory system..." Kirino replies "Thanks for your kind intentions...but I'll try to find someone else..." "Oh...." "Thank you very much...." With that, Kirino walks off....

After Kendo practice, the boys return to their locker room "Otsukare! Ah it's hot!" when the coach comes in "Gather round! The inter high school preliminary competition pairing information is out....for the first bout, our rivals be Nishiki Oka Shougyou High School, last year's winners...." The boys moan "We'll be completely routed!" "Says who!" replies the coach but the Kota says "Can't be helped, last year's winners, it's going to be tough..." The coach tells them "The tougher they are, the better the memories of youth...otsukare!" As the coach walks out, the boys continue their moaning. Nao goes back to his locker & Kota, next to him all of a sudden says "Win for sure...." Nao replies "Yeah, our last competition...." Kota tells him "The competition too but....the trial also..." Surprised at the encouragement, Nao looks at Kota, not saying a word. Kota adds "Because of my Dad, I can't help you....but at the very least I can treat you to ramen...." Touched, Nao merely says "Kota..." With a smile, Kota gives Nao a clap on the shoulder "That's that...." After a pause, Nao says to the others "Everyone! Kouta's inviting us our for ramen!" pushing him out in front of the others as they crowd round rowdily, laughing....

In her room, Ami makes a phone call "Ah, this is Isetani...." Yuko answers "Is there anything?" "Sorry, I couldn't get through to Nao on his cell phone so couldn't get in touch with him...." "Maybe...he doesn't want to keep in touch with you anymore...." Ami looks surprised "Eh?" Yuko says "If there's any message I'll pass it on to him...." When Ami doesn't say anything, Yuko tells her "If there's nothing, I'll hang up..." Ami quickly says "Ah, then...can I ask you something? I just wanted to make sure....Nao going to the hospital without notice & hitting my father....is that true? Nao wouldn't do something like that...." Yuko replies "You...what part of Nao you see do you like? What attracts you to him? What part of him attracts you & you like him!? Whether that boy did hit your father or not....if you have to make sure of every little thing like that....if you only like him that much, then just break off with him! He's also said that he doesn't like you!" Angrily, Yuko hangs up on Ami. Slowly, Yuko walks back to the living room, thinking about the phone call. Nao comes back "I'm home..." & Yuko replies "Welcome back...." Nao asks "Any calls for me?" Yuko asks "From who?" "Kirino-san..." "Nope..." "Then I'm going to the office...." "Nao...." "Hm?" "What about dinner?" "I had ramen with everyone...." "Didn't I always say if you're not eating to call home?" "Yeah yeah yeah...." replies Nao walking out. Yuko says "Nao...." as if half a mind to tell him about Ami's phone call but Nao's gone.....

At Nonaka lawyers, Nao tells Kirino "The fact that she fell at the shrine & hurt her back...& complaining that her abdomen hurting...think of them as separate things...." Kirino asks "Why?" Nao explains "Because her abdomen was hurting so much, the hospital didn't realize about her back...." Kirino thinks "Then, the abdomen & her back as two separate problems?" "Yes..." "Two medical conditions?" "Yes..." "One is the injury from hurting her back...." "The other is choukanmaku kessenshou..." Nao reaches for the medical book next to him & shows it to Kirino "Involving sudden pain in the abdomen...it's written here...I was wondering if Minami-sensei failed performing this surgery....." "Where did you this word choukanmaku kessenshou appear from?" "Minami-sensei came to the house..." "He went into your home?" "He came to pay his respects..." Kirino says in shock "Why?" Nao tells her "You said that people have good & evil in them...I took a gamble...with Minami's good in him....if he had any feelings of conscience towards my mother at all....in front of my mother's photograph....maybe he'd say something..." Kirino says "& all that appeared was choukanmaku kessenshou... that's just purposely to confuse you, coming up with some irresponsible medical condition...." but Nao replies "Saying it irresponsibly....I don't think so..... " Kirino tells him "He's not a man who will tell the truth even when paying respects to your mother!" Nao replies "He has a child....said that they played together during his days off....playing catch ball & soccer..." Kirino shakes her head & gets a document from her table, handing it to Nao "This is what Nonaka found out about Dr Minami for us......" Nao takes it from her, listening to her as she says "On his days off he plays tennis...just chasing girls on the tennis courts...he's single...doesn't have kids...." Nao looks up at Kirino as he realizes he's been had. The sound of fireworks gets Kirino's attention as she goes to the window sliding it open, lighting a cigarette as she watches the fireworks. Nao stares at the document in his hands.....

Quietly, Nao says "I believe...." Kirino turns around & looks at Nao in surprise. In all seriousness, Nao says "I don't think that the medical condition choukanmaku kessenshou is a lie..." Kirino asks "It is possible that because of him, your mother died...what on earth is wrong with you?" Nao replies "Because of him & I end up unable to believe in other people...that makes me angry...the one who's dead is my mother....inside me, the heart that believes in other people, I don't want to lose that....in front of my mother's picture, the words he said.....I believe in them.....he said that my mother didn't die because of an error in medical treatment....don't you think that there's something hidden in those words?" With tears in her eyes, Kirino merely looks at Nao without answering. Nao stares at her "Kirino-san...."

The day of the Kendo competition arrives "& next, the round between Toritsu Bunka High School & Nishiki Oka Shougyou High School...." Everyone cheers as the teams line up & get ready....

As Ami waters the plants at home, her mother Akiko says "I'll be back right away..." leaving Ami alone in the house...

The competition goes on & finally it's Nao's turn. The coach says "Masaki...do you remember what is Kendo's basic spirit? It's not only to knock down the opponent...what's the first goal?" Nao replies "One...one first has to win himself..." "Go!" As Nao gets ready, Shiro arrives, bringing with him the photograph of Teruko & the ema. Nao steps up & Yuko, holding up their mother's photograph, yell "Nao ganbare!" with little Runa cheering "Oni-chan ganbare!" As Nao starts his fight, Ami comes running up into the stands watching....

As Ami stands by the rails watching, she recalls Yuko asking her on the phone "You...what part of Nao you see do you like? What part of him attracts you & you like him!?" Suddenly Ami yells "Masaki! Don't lose! Don't lose! Masaki!" Nao, going for the attack slips & falls & the competition stops, the umpire asking "Are you alright?" As Nao goes back to the side, the coach comes up to him "Are you alright? Don't lose to him in spirit...." Nao nods, reaching for a towel beside him. As he towels himself off, he looks up & happens to see Ami looking at him. Seeing Nao using the towel she have him brings a smile to her face. With a determined look on his face, Nao gets ready to go back into the battle....

At the office, Kirino munches on a donut, surfing on the net for information. Nonaka comes back "Didn't you go?" Kirino merely replies "Otsukare sama desu..." "Isn't it that boy's competition today? I thought you'd have gone..." Kirino looks at her watch "It's over already..." Nonaka takes a seat on the sofa "Oh...ah, I've got a hold of some interesting information..." taking out an envelope from his bag. Interest peaked, Kirino takes goes over to take a look at the documents Nonaka takes out of the envelope "Shoei Sogo Hospital's reputation is neither very good nor very bad....up to this point in time, there's never been any errors in medical treatment....the first time a scandal like this is left entirely at the discretion of the director of surgery Isetani..." Kirino looks at some photographs "What's this?" Nonaka snickers "Isetani & Kitayama secret rendezvous..." Kirino smiles "Nonaka-san, we're not working on a divorce case..." Nonaka replies "The person I asked specializes in this..." Kirino says "I don't intend to reveal private matters..." "Knowing the relationships of what goes on inside that hospital is no loss...in any case just glance through it....that nurse Kitayama is really dangerous...." At that note of warning, Kirino looks at the photographs of Kitayama & Isetani together....

At the hospital, the Isetanis have a private conversation. Isetani looks at his wife "...to Kitayama?" Akiko replies "I'd like to introduce my former teacher at university...he's a little older....works in a solid company & is a trustworthy person...I was wondering what Kitayama would think..." Isetani replies "Kitayama has no intention of getting married...." Akiko asks "How would you know?" Isetani looks at his wife "As a head nurse she is excellent, on top of that she looks after the other nurses well...that case now, whatever Minami's done is all handled by her...." Akiko looks shocked "Eh?" Isetani tells her "We can't let her go.....for the sake of protecting the hospital....." Akiko at a loss for words, merely stares at her husband as he says "I'm getting back to work...." & leaves the room....

Sitting at her desk, Kirino drops the documents & photographs of Isetani & Kitayama on her desk. As she reaches out for her cigarettes & is about to light one, she recalls Nao telling her "...inside me, the heart that believes in people, I don't want to lose that..."

Kirino goes back to Kawabe Hospital. As she rings the doorbell & waits, Kawabe comes back & surprised to see her "Kirino-san?" Kirino turns around "Ah...sorry about the other day..." "It's ok...what?" Kirino explains "Could you listen to my ideas & then give your advice from a medical expert point of view?" "Will I be do?" "Yes please...."

Inside, Kirino explains to Kawabe "Before being brought to the hospital, the deceased fell from the steps of the shrine & seriously hurt her back....after a while, she complained of pain in her abdomen..." Kirino takes out some documents out titled "Masaki Teruko's actual cause of death" & hands it to Kawabe. As he reads it, Kirino says "I think it's got something to do with her chest..." Surprised, Kawabe looks at Kirino "Chest?"

At the okonomiyaki restaurant, Nao serves his friends lemonade as they talk among themselves "...they had to win...they were just too strong...." Nao asks "Everyone, eat whatever you want...." Kenji moans into the Kendo outfit on the counter & the other guys say "Don't keep crying just because we lost..." Runa, sitting on one of the guys' laps chip in "Don't cry..." Kenji mutters upset "I'm not crying because of that...have to say goodbye to Kendo now...that's really sad....idiots!" Nao says to him "All right! All right! What do you want to eat?" Kenji replies "Cream puff...." "What are you saying!" replies Nao, going back behind the counter. The guys ask "What's the recommendation today? Chef's recommendation..." Nao smiles "I can't do that...." At that moment, Yuko comes in "Nao, phone...from her...I'll do the rest..." as Nao, a little glumly, goes inside to take the call. Yuko says to the guys "What do you want to eat? I recommend the fried onions...."

Sitting on the steps, Nao answers the call "Hello..." Ami says "Hi...the competition, otsukare....sorry I left without saying anything..." "Ah...everyone's here right now...we're just ending everything (Kendo)..." "Is that so...then...." "Hello?" "Yes?" "Thank you....coming to cheer me on, thank you...." Happily, Ami's about to say something "Uh...." but Nao, as if running away from her, cuts her off "Uhm....everyone's here, good bye...." & hangs up rather abruptly. As Ami hangs up, she recalls Kirino telling her "Be there for him...."

Nonaka opens the door & finds Ami waiting "Is there anything?" Ami replies "Is Kirino-san in?" "No, but I think she'll be coming back....the documentation's all over the place but if you don't mind, come on in...it's ok, a bit of a mess...." With a nod, Ami enters "Excuse me..." As he tries to clean up the place, Nonaka gets a call on his cell phone "Hello...right now....yes yes...." & leaves the office in a hurry. Left alone, Ami walks to the window & closes it. At that moment, Ami notices the photographs on Kirino's desk & picks them up, looking at the images of her father & Kitayama together.....

At the hospital, Ikezawa suggests to Isetani "Send the nurse away.....the nurse who knows the truth....send her far away....what is the name of that nurse?" Isetani doesn't reply....

As the boys cheer & grab their gear ready to leave, they banter among themselves "From tomorrow it's getting ready for exams..." Nao looks at Kenji taking a Kendo outfit "Isn't that mine?" Kenji replies "You're kidding...." returning it "I...wiped my nose on it...." & all the boys crack up laughing. Nao says "What are you doing? Idiot!" "You're the idiot!" & they laugh, walking away "Bye, gochisousama..." Nao watches his friends walk off & suddenly, Kenji turns around "Nao!" & all the boys raise their fists to him. Nao raises his with a smile & watches them leave. Turning around, Nao walks away....

As he walks on, he notices Kirino waiting for him on a bridge. Running up to her, Kirino asks "How was it? The competition?" Nao replies "We lost....met a tough team in the first round...." Kirino says "Oh......" turning away & looking over the water "...I decided to take a chance on what you said about believing in people...I'll try to accept Dr Minami's words...." Nao sound surprised "Kirino-san?" Kirino tells him "I know for sure what was wrong your mother...it wasn't her back or her abdomen....your mother's real illness was her chest..." Nao doesn't understand "What do you mean?" Kirino says "Come to the office...I'll explain my theory to you...." Nao nods "ok...." Looking at Nao holding on to his Kendo outfit, Kirino says "Ah...then I'll go ahead first...." As she turns to go, Nao calls her "Kirino-san....the competition today...I didn't lose...." Kirino looks at him as he explains "As a team, our school lost 3-2....but I...won...." Nao recalls beating his opponent & says to Kirino "I won....I wanted to show you....that moment I won...." Kirino stares at him & finally says "But a defeat is still a defeat....it's unfortunate..." Nao replies "I thought you'd say that..." Kirino smiles "...but I wanted to see too...the moment you won...." Looking at each other, Kirino says with a bittersweet smile "Congratulations...." as Nao returns the smile.....
