When Professor Sasaki remains silent after Nao's accusation "The one that killed my mother...was you, wasn't it...." Kirino speaks "May we ask you some questions?" Sasaki looks at Nao's eyes, seeing the intensity in them. As they proceed to another location on the campus, atop a building, Kirino says "After receiving a call from Minami-sensei that day, you left here in a hurry...I heard from one of the medical staff from the same department.....the car park attendant also said that he saw you leave....you didn't forbid them to speak about this....." Sasaki smiles "There's no need to forbid anyone to speak about it...." Kirino presses on "There's also no need for you to hide your involvement in this....." At this, Sasaki recalls that day Minami called for him, rushing down the corridors of Shoei Sogo Hospital "Where's Minami-sensei?" Sasaki looks up at Kirino & Nao "Because I'm not involved....." Kirino's at a loss for words & Nao steps forward "Didn't Minami-sensei call for you to help with my mother?" Sasaki recalls arriving at the operating theatre but stops in shock as he looks around the theatre. Sasaki tells Nao "What I saw was a dead body...." Kirino glances at Nao before saying to Sasaki "Then you admit that you went to Shoei Sogo Hospital...." Sasaki sighs & at that moment, his beeper goes off "The hospital ward's calling me...." & gets up to leave. Kirino doesn't give up "Minami-sensei's field is the digestive system....specializing in the abdomen.... your specialty is the respiratory system....illnesses with regards to the chest......that's why when Minami-sensei made the diagnosis based on the wrong X-rays & realized that it was actually the chest that was the problem, he called you for help.....Masaki Teruko's real cause of death was in her chest....am I wrong?" Sasaki looks at Kirino "You're the type that believes in UFOs aren't you..." Not getting the response she expected, Kirino looks bewildered "Huh?" Sasaki replies "I'm bad at matters which are scientifically groundless.....unlike you, without seeing anything, I can't make any conjectures or guesses.....beyond a doubt, judging others without proof....that's not good...goodbye...." With that, Sasaki walks off, leaving Kirino & Nao on the roof top pondering at the turn of events.....

Later down by the waterfront, Kirino asks Nao, a little exasperated "What do you think?....do you believe?" Nao replies "In Mexico, there have been witnesses...." Kirino looks at him not understanding. Nao continues "...there are UFOs..." Kirino finally gives a smile "That....." Glad that he manages to get a smile back on Kirino's face, Nao tells her "I believe in you....undoubtedly even if we have no proof....whatever you've thought up until now, you haven't been wrong..." Kirino smiles & says instead "Your hair....it's gotten long...." As Nao reaches up & tugs at the hair falling over his eyes, Kirino says "Being told that way, I thought you'd be depressed...." At the questioning look on his face, Kirino replies "What I saw was a dead body..." Nao nods "Oh...if I get bothered with every little thing, I can't carry on...." As they look out over the water, Nao says "After the trial is over...everyone's talking about going somewhere for a holiday....because we run a restaurant, we've never gone on a family holiday...that's why after the trial....go someplace where we can see the ocean, everyone relaxing.....that's why before that, I can't get depressed...."

As Yuko brings in the laundry, Nao's in the kitchen cooking, dishing out the curry for Runa to taste. With a little anxious glance, Nao glances at Runa who tastes a little & then tells him "It's no good! Do it over!" Nao asks "Serious?" & looks at her walking into the living room, saying to Yuko "Oni-chan hasn't improved at all!" Yuko smiles....

In the restaurant, an enthusiastic Shiro thanks a customer & cleans up. Another customer calls up "Excuse me, one more yakisoba please...." "yakisoba....yes...."

After his bath, Nao pauses by the living room & sees his folded laundry on the floor. As he picks them up, he notices the towel Ami gave to him. Sitting down on the floor, he recalls the times he spent with her....

Scenes of meeting Ami at the convenience store, going with her to the photograph exhibition, to the amusement park, Ami giving him a present, Ami throwing the amulet at Nao, confessing that they like each other..... "I like you....I'm on your side.....I like you too....why say that? Why say that when you say it's better not to see each other anymore?! Goodbye!".....all flash through Nao's mind as he stares at the towel in his hands.....

Kirino finishes reading some documents & as she packs up, putting some books & documents into a box, a photograph falls to the floor. As she picks it up & sees the photograph of Kitayama & Isetani, she recalls the day Ami came to the office & telling her "Kirino-san....don't lose to Shoei Sogo Hospital....please don't lose!"

Nao stares at the towel, recalling what Ami said to him "I'll find out for your sake....I have to find out....." Nao ponders.....

As Kirino leaves for the night, digging into her bag for her keys just outside the pachinko palor, she looks up in surprise to see Ikezawa approach her "Can we talk for a bit?" Kirino asks bluntly "What?" Ikezawa rubs his nose muttering "Hmmmm....."

As they walk along the waterfront, Kirino tells Ikezawa "We have no intentions of dropping the lawsuit nor making peace....also have no intention of making any deals...." Ikezawa says "Your intention is to save that boy isn't it....but the more you pursue the truth, the deeper that boy will be hurt....it's as if you're going to court for the sake of hurting him...." Kirino stops "I...." but Ikezawa breaks her off "Rather than pursuing the truth, isn't it more important to save that boy's feelings?" Kirino looks away....

As the day of the next court session approaches, Nao & Kirino go over the case at the Nonaka Lawyer's office. Staring into the monitor, Kirino says "That day, it was past 7.30pm when Professor Sasaki received the call from Minami- to his colleagues it was about 7.40pm.....after that the car park security guard said that he left at about 8pm.....taking 30 minutes to Shoei Sogo Hospital...." Nao completes her speculation "...arrived at 8.30pm......" Kirino nods "The time of your mother's death was 9.43pm...." Nao asks "Would they lie about the time of death?" Kirino replies "When she died, they still hadn't found out her identity....there certainly was no need to fabricate the time of death on the death certificate at the National Archives...." Nao continues "..then that's to say....when Professor Sasaki arrived at the hospital, Mom was still alive....." Kirino adds "8.30 to 9.43...." Nao says "Minami was on stand-by in the operating theatre...or performing a procedure...." operating theatre opens...." Nao completes her thoughts "Professor Sasaki arrives...." Kirino nods & they both exchange glances. With a sigh, Nao says "The problem is....how are we going to prove this?" Kirino replies "We're not...." Nao looks at her "Eh?" Kirino explains "We'll leave the gathering of evidence until later...we'll only go after the other party with what happened prior to Professor Sasaki's arrival at the hospital....putting this & that in writing, it'll only be a waste of time polishing our argument against the other party....the next one on the witness stand is the accused himself...we'll expose Minami's lie....." As Kirino walks up to make some coffee, she says "If Minami's lie can be exposed, the truth will be revealed for the most part....it won't take years for the case to be decided....have to finish it as soon as possible...." Over her shoulder, Nao looks at Kirino, understanding her feelings.... sensei....according -sensei Kirino stares at the screen "8.30pm, the door to the

Coming down the stairs in the middle of the night, Yuko looks into the restaurant to find Nao sitting at the counter, pouring over documents "Still awake?" Nao looks up & nods "Uhm...." Yuko asks "What's that?" Nao tells her "The copies of documents produced by the lawyers of the other party...." "But Kirino-san has gone through everything hasn't she?" "For Kirino-san's sake, I'm going over it one more time....see if there're any clues...." "The trial's tomorrow..." Nao looks up at his sister "I don't want to give up...." With a smile, Yuko gets a bottle of lemonade & puts it on the counter for Nao "If you're hungry say so, I'll make you something for supper...." Nao says "Thank you...." & as Yuko walks out, something occurs to her "Ah, let's invite Kirino-san too..." Nao looks at her as she says "Going on that trip we were talking about, after the trial....let's invite Kirino-san too...." Nao nods & Yuko walks out, leaving Nao alone. As he reads the documents, Nao recalls Ikezawa say in court "This is a paper by a student regarding the contents of Minami-sensei's presentation....we'd like to use this as reference today...." Tossing the document down & picking up another one, Nao recalls Ikezawa saying "These are written statements from the people in the shopping area that have undergone outpatient treatment or have had previous experience of staying at Shoei Sogo Hospital...." Nao's eyes falls on a page ".....Minami-sensei took pains to....but there was nothing wrong....extremely politely explained.....very kind doctor......" A thought occurs to Nao as he recalls again Ikezawa saying "These are written statements from the people in the shopping area that have undergone outpatient treatment or have had previous experience of staying at Shoei Sogo Hospital...."

Looking around the empty courtroom, Minami says "Wow..." Ikezawa warns him "You're not here for a visit....I called you here early so we could go over a few things before hand..." Minami mutters "Yeah...wow....." Moving to a cafe over coffee, Ikezawa asks Minami "Have you ever had relationships with two women at the same time?" Putting down his coffee cup, Minami replies "No....but with three, yes....with a girl from the tennis club, a nurse & a college student....they've ever bumped into one another by chance at my apartment...." Ikezawa asks "What happened then?" Taking a sip of his coffee, Minami answers "...feigned ignorance...." Ikezawa leans forward "OK...whatever Kirino asks, feign ignorance...." Minami gives Ikezawa a glance & turns away, not saying a word. Ikezawa tells him "Even if Professor Sasaki's name comes out in court, say you don't remember calling him & that'll be just fine...." Minami says "But....." only to have Ikezawa cut him off "No matter what happens, I'll handle it, it'll be alright....."

On her way to court, Kirino suddenly hears her name called "Kirino-san!" Turning around, she sees Isetani Ami. Taking a seat on a bench, Ami says "Actually...I wanted to find out what happened....although I wanted to help Nao....what happened at the very end, I didn't find out anything...." Kirino stares at Ami in silence. Ami takes an envelope out of her bag "...but....this is everything I know...please use it as evidence in court today...." holding it out to Kirino. Kirino stares at Ami "It involves your father....there's a possibility that your father was the one that performed the surgery?" Ami looks away, not saying a word....

At the Isetani house, Isetani looks at his wife Akiko "Ami...?" Akiko explains "That committee party you attended.....she went to ask those who attended it as well....." Isetani looks puzzled "Why?" Akiko stares at her husband "Because she wanted to find out the truth.....but I....I didn't want to know....." Isetani gives a laugh "So I'm being treated like a criminal...." Akiko asks "Are we wrong?" Isetani merely gives Akiko a nod & walks out of the house in silence....

Ami says quietly to Kirino "That day, my father wasn't at the hospital....but halfway through the second party, he left....I think he was called out by Minami-sensei...." Kirino tells her "The one that Minami-sensei called was Medical University's Professor Sasaki...." Ami looks surprised "Eh?" Kirino asks "Saying that your father might have been the one to perform the surgery, if Nao hears this, how do you think he'll feel? He.....he's suppressing his feelings of wanting to seeing you because he doesn't want you to get involved......" Ami listens but replies with determination "But....please pursue it....about my father....in court today....please reveal the truth!" With tears in her eyes, Ami looks at the envelope in her hands "That's....that's for the sake of Nao..." & holds it out to Kirino......

At a warehouse, Nao tries to speak to an employee Watanabe, who tells him "...I'm really busy...." but Nao doesn't give up "onegaishimasu....why did you tell all this to the hospital lawyer?" holding out her statement. Watanabe replies "Because it's the truth...." Someone calls out "Watanabe-san! We're rushing this over here too...." Answering "OK....", she starts walking away & Nao follows her "Don't you think it strange? Why Minami-sensei took the trouble to call you & tell you about the test results? Did that really happen?" Watanabe says "Yes it did....that's why I think he's a good doctor..." Nao asks "The test results....anything to do with X-rays etc?" "Yes....there was nothing wrong with the X-rays.....very polite...sweet voice... really nice...." At Watanabe's words "X-rays...." something occurs to Nao & he says anxiously "What happened then, please tell me more in detail.....onegaishimasu...." bowing in request....

In court Kirino sits deep in thought. As the judges enter & an offical calls out "All rise...." Kirino breaks out of her reverie & stands up. "Bow...." & everyone in the court room bow in a sign of respect before sitting back down. Nonaka arrives & sliding into the seats behind Shiro, Runa & Yuko, he asks "Where's Nao?" Yuko shakes her head & Nonaka says "What? It's starting...." Runa turns around & puts her finger on her lips "Shhhhh!" Nonaka sits back & behind him, Isetani arrive along with Kitayama....

As Ami walks along despondently holding the envelope in her arms, she recalls Kirino telling her "...he's suppressing his feelings of wanting to seeing you because he doesn't want you to get involved......"

At the warehouse, Nao waits with a sigh. Watanabe comes out of the office with a file in hand "I remember, it was around April..." Nao asks "When in April?" Watanabe flips open the file "Hm...going to see Minami-sensei was on...." Nao asks anxiously "When did you have those X-rays taken at the outpatient department?" Watanabe replies "...day the X-rays were taken......ah, it's here....on the 13th....." Nao calmly says "April 13th?"

In court, Minami reads out "I swear to tell the truth according to my conscience without or fabrication...Minami Etsushi....." As everyone settles down, Ikezawa throws a glance at Isetani. Kirino looks on grimly....

Speeding to the courthouse in a taxi, Nao scribbles whatever information he's found out onto the back of some flyers.....

Ikezawa holds up a document & questions Minami "Could you explain the 5 blank hours on this medical record? Was Masaki Teruko neglected for 5 whole hours?" Minami replies a curt "No...." Ikezawa continues "Then, how did you actually follow up on her?" Minami explains "Took her blood pressure many times....also did ultrasonic wave tests on her..." Ikezawa asks "Why wasn't all this entered in the medical records?" Minami replies "I normally only enter important information into the records...something like this happening...if I had known in the beginning, I would've written everything in more detail...." looking remorseful. Kirino however looks on unimpressed as Ikezawa continues "Then, according to the medical record of April 13th, there was nothing unusual with the test results?" Minami replies "Yes...." Ikezawa asks "Did the condition settle down after your treatment?" Kirino stares at Minami who answers "No...." Ikezawa presses on "She was still in pain?" Minami nods "Yes...." The Masaki family listens as Ikezawa says "Was just moaning in pain?" "Yes...." "To the extent that you couldn't get a name out of her?" Minami replies "That's correct...." Kirino frowns, glancing at Ikezawa as he says "Then that's to say that your treatment was not appropriate?" "No....." "Then Masaki Teruko's condition....just what was your conclusion?" Minami remains silent for a moment before answering "Hysteria...." Ikezawa pretends to look surprised "Hysteria?" Kirino looks on in wonder as do Shiro, Yuko & Runa. Minami explains "Yes....there was nothing unusual in all the test results....when the conditions does not tie in with any particular illness, there is one medical condition called "Hysteria"....." Ikezawa adds "Although there is no pain, but swearing there is pain on a pretext?" At this, Kirino stands up "Objection! This is a leading question.....in the first place, Masaki Teruko was brought in in an ambulance with pain around the solar plexus.....didn't you consider that & had her put her on a pain-killer intravenous drip?....please do not falsely put the responsibility on the dead with some artificial medical name....." The judge tries to stop Kirino "Counselor...." but Kirino continues all riled "Just what is this 'Hysteria'?" Minami coolly replies "Your condition at this moment...is called 'Hysteria'....." Kirino doesn't reply & Kitayama gives a snide smile. Ikezawa says "We seem to have lost focus, may we return to the question at hand...." & Kirino has no choice but to sit back down. Ikezawa looks at Minami "You've just been insulted of pushing all responsibility away but....the fact that you have been accused of making an error with the X-rays, what is your answer to that?" Minami replies "That's a false charge...." Ikezawa announces "No more questions...." as everyone looks on tensely. The judge states "Then, let's proceed with the cross examination by the plaintiff...." Kirino nods & stands up "Counselor for the plaintiff Kirino...." Looking at Minami, Kirino opens fire "First, may I verify one thing regarding your career & actual records? Document No.24 indicates that you have given lectures to students of Professor Sasaki at the Medical University but even now, you maintain a close relationship with Professor Sasaki, isn't that right?"

Ikezawa gives an anxious glance to Minami pondering his reply. When none is forthcoming, Kirino continues "Then with regards to the medical record that was in question just now.....whenever you enter information into medical records, it is always with this pen, isn't it?" From an envelop, Kirino takes out the quill Nonaka gaves her. Minami looks at her with a perplexed frown "Huh?" Kirino holds up some paper & draws big circles onto it with the pen "The ink in this pen is red....you always use a red ink pen don't you...." Minami snorts "What are you saying...." Kirino scratches her back with the pen "This pen is also convenient for scratching one's back isn't it...." Watching the proceedings, Nonaka grins. The judge asks "What is the relevance of this question?" Kirino says "Using a pen such as this to do medical examinations is alright?" The judge replies "Whatever is used is irrelevant...." & Ikezawa adds "It is irrelevant...." Kirino says "Even with red ink?" Minami finally breaks in "Wait a minute...." From his jacket, Minami takes out a pen "The pen I always use is this fountain pen....the ink is black....stop that nonsense....." Kirino leans forward "The ink is always black...." Minami looks at her with irritation "Definitely not red!" Kirino picks up a stack of documents from her table & walks up to Minami "These will be presented as evidence in a moment....these are color copies of the medical records of other patients of yours written on April 13th....what color is the ink?" Minami stares at the papers in front of him & shock registers on his face. Kirino says "It's blue....only on April 13th, you used a blue ball pen to write....then document no.4, the medical record of Masaki Teruko written on the same day April 13th, what is the color of the ink?" Kirino takes another document & places it in front of Minami. Minami looks at it without saying anything & Kirino states in triumph "It's black....on April 13th, you forgot the pen you always used...." Ikezawa stands up "Objection!" Kirino says to the judge "The whole day he used a blue pen but why only Masaki Teruko's medical record was in black....on a different day, he used the pen he always uses & amended the medical record....." Minami looks away, unable to defend himself. Kirino holds up the various copies of the medical records "These prove that the medical record was altered & will be put forward in writing afterward...." finishing with a professional nod to the judge.....

With the traffic barely crawling, Nao looks ahead anxiously & then thinks. Finally Nao gets out of the taxi & starts running towards the court....

Ikezawa poses a question to Kirino "May I ask one question? How did you get a hold of the medical records of other patients?" Kirino replies "I got the medical records with help from someone who has free access to Shoei Sogo Hospital...." looking into the gallery where Nonaka sits grinning, behind him Isetani & Kitayama. Ikezawa, Minami & Isetani all turn around following in the direction of Kirino's stare, flabbergasted at the implication. Stunned at the accusation, Kitayama anxiously says "That's not true! It wasn't me!" The judge says "Silence in court!" Kirino continues "Then from the fact that the medical records are insufficiently reliable, let's switch to the fact that the X-rays were mistaken....." Ikezawa stands up "Objection! At this stage it is not known if the X-rays were mistaken, the question is inappropriate...."

With the flyers in his folder, bag across his shoulder, Nao runs desperately towards the court, going up a slope.....

Kirino replies "I'm asking on the presumption that there's that possibility...." Ikezawa objects "However the fact is that at this stage, there is no evidence in court that the X-rays were mistaken....it's a leading question....." Kirino looks to the judge but gets the response "Counselor, please rephrase your question....." Appearing flustered, Kirino picks up a document from her table & looks through it. Shiro, Yuko & Runa look at her anxiously. When Kirino doesn't start her questioning, the judge says "Counselor?" "Yes?" "Please continue...." Ikezawa looks on as Kirino replies hesitatingly "Then....rephrasing the question...." swallowing & seemingly at a loss. At that very moment, the door opens & Nao arrives panting. As everyone turns to look, Nao gives Kirino a nod & she returns a questioning look. Walking up to the side, he glances at Isetani & Kitayama before approaching Kirino. Without a word, he takes out the flyers from his folder & gives it to Kirino. Taking them from him, Kirino gives him another questioning look & gets a wordless nod from Nao. With the judge saying "Counselor.....counselor....please continue....." Finally, Kirino replies "Yes....." giving Nao a nod before going back to her place. Looking at what Nao's written on the back of the flyers, Kirino poses a question to Minami "According to the written statements taken from everyone in the shopping area...." Glancing at the name 'Watanabe Yuko' written by Nao, Kirino continues "....do you know of a Watanabe-san?" Minami, unable to recall the name, glances anxiously at Ikezawa who can only look on as Kirino continues "This was among the statements you all produced so of course you know of her, don't you? She states in detail that you were very good with regards to her experience with having gone to the outpatient emergency with her old chronic asthma....." Unable to recall the patient in question, Minami vaguely replies "Uh...." Kirino asks "Do you remember? The day this patient came to the outpatient emergency ward was last year......" Kirino looks at the following flyer ".....April 13th....." Turning to look at Nao in surprise & then back at Minami, she says "...the same day as Masaki Teruko....." Kirino looks back at Nao who merely gives her an assuring nod. Nodding, Kirino gets back onto firmer ground & continues her questioning as her confidence returns "This patient also had X-rays taken....according to document no.14, the results of her tests were not not made known to her on the day itself....after making her wait for a long time, to make things worse, the X-rays alone were not clearly explained to her... not explained.....why?" Frowning, Minami recalls that day in surgery, frantically operating on Masaki Teruko, anxiously glancing at the X-rays up on the panel. Kirino continues "This person's statement will also be produced afterward....you took the trouble to call her & inform her that there was nothing unusual about her X-rays....this person thinks that you are a very kind doctor & she feels very grateful.....does this happen very often?" Minami asks "Excuse me...could you tell me her name one more time?" Kirino replies "She's called Watanabe...you don't know her?" Minami frowns, desperately trying to recall this patient of his. Behind him, Kitayama looks on as does Nao, with a fixed stare as if to say 'got you'. Minami thinks back again to the operating theatre, staring at the X-rays & the name attached "Mizukami Yuko" Relieved, Minami says "It's wrong...." Kirino asks "Wrong?" Minami repeats "It's wrong..." Kirino asks again "What's wrong?" Minami replies "The X-rays...." Kirino says "The X-rays?" Minami tells her "It's not Watanabe-san....." Kirino says "Watanabe-san is also called Mizukami-san....." In shock, Minami looks at Kirino, Nao looks on, pleased. Kirino explains "After getting a divorced, she changed her name back....." Kirino gives Nao a nod before reading on "Her former name was Mizukami Yuko, age 43..." Shocked, Minami reacts without thinking & turns around to look at Kitayama who stares back equally stunned. Kirino, taking note of the reactions, says "Looks like you remember Mizukami-san's name very well...." Ikezawa voices "Objection!" but the judge directs a question to Minami instead "Did you mistake Mizukami's X-rays with Masaki's?" Minami, trapped, replies "Eh?" before nodding "Yes...." Kirino pounces "So you made that mistake..." Ikezawa says again "Objection! Leading question...." However, the judge looks at Kirino "Counselor, please continue....." & Ikezawa has no choice but to sit back down. Kirino stares at Minami "Then continuing on with the questions.....Minami-sensei....I'm going to ask you what happened that day....could you recall slowly & in detail....April 13th, a woman...no, a mother...was brought to Shoei Sogo Hospital in an ambulance....

Flashback to Masaki Teruko being brought into the hospital with the paramedics reporting her condition to the nurses & Kikui asking "Can you tell us your name?"

Kirino says "The results of the test as well as the X-rays showed nothing unusual....."

Minami recalls looking at some X-rays & giving instructions to a nurse "Then, put her on an intravenous drip with painkillers...." "Alright..." replies the nurse....

Kirino continues "However, according to your answer just now that the extreme pain was a condition of Hysteria, the claims of pain were ignored by you....."

Shiro, Runa, Yuko & Nao are grim faced as they think of the pain Teruko suffered.....

Kirino says "Finally, her condition takes a turn for the worse.....you suspect it is choukanmaku kessenshou...." Ikezawa interjects "Objection!" but Kirino's ready with a reply "This term choukanmaku kessenshou has been admitted by the defendant himself...." The judge states "Please continue....." Kirino picks up a document from her table "It's written here that you had a similar experience before.....the experience of having a patient complain of abdominal pain & you operated accordingly, removing a section of an intestine..." Minami tells her "Please do not be rude....that time I did not make a mistake...." Kirino says "That time, you didn't make a mistake....certainly that time, according to your diagnosis, it turned out to be choukanmaku kessenshou.....you performed emergency surgery & saved the patient......so with the confidence that came with the experience....with over confidence, this incident that arose....." Ikezawa looks ready to object again but Kirino continues "....is not what I'm thinking but.....supposing.....I'm only supposing....." Kirino stresses, adding "...you, suspecting that it was choukanmaku kessenshou....trying to save her in all seriousness, you decided to go ahead & operate on her......operating on her abdomen....."

Minami recalls the operation.....reaching out, he says "mesu....." A nurse puts one in his hand & he starts the operation.....

As Minami puts both hands into the abdomen, a machine starts beeping & Kitayami says "Saturation 88....sensei...."

Kirino adds"...however....the problem couldn't be detected.....finally, you realized that the X-rays were the wrong ones....they were Mizukami Yuko's......"

Kitayami stares at the X-rays & then rushes to make a phone call "Bring all the X-rays from the emergency department! Hurry!" Minami stares at the X-rays as he realizes the error as well. Kitayama says "There's a name attached to this X-ray....this patient's identity is not known!" The beeping from the Pulse Oximeter gets her attention "Saturation 86, patient's condition is deteriorating! sensei!" Minami finally instructs "I know, first lets close up!" & frantically gets to work. A nurse enters "shu'nin...." & Kitayama takes the stack of X-rays from her "Thank you, I'll return them later..." Flipping through the stack in a hurry, she finds Mizukami Yuko's name on the envelop & takes out the X-rays, putting them up on the panel "We made a mistake on the X-rays!" Desperately, Minami says "Stethoscope!" A nurse hands one to him & in a panic, Minami grabs it from her, overturning a tray of surgical equipment, scattering them all over . Listening through the stethoscope, horror dawns on his face as he stares at the X-rays "kikkyou" (pneumothorax - free air in the chest outside the lung)

Back in court, Kirino says "Your all out effort was a mistake...." Minami, Kitayama, Isetani, Shiro, Yuko, Runa, Nao all look on with grim expressions. After a long pause, Kirino adds "After that, you asked Medical University's Professor Sasaki for help, didn't you...." To the judges, Kirino says "The report will be handed in afterward..." & then to Minami "At 7.30pm, you made a phone call to Professor Sasaki...."

Flashback to the operating theatre, Kitayama holds up the phone for Minami as he says "onegaishimasu....please....I've made a wrong diagnosis....."

Kirino stares at Minami "After that, at 8.30pm....the operating theatre door opens....." Nao looks at Kirino but all of a sudden, she stops speaking. Ikezawa stands up & voices his objection "Pursuing whether or not the defendant has made a mistake or not & revealing everything publicly in court....I don't understand the meaning of this but you should take into consideration the family's feelings as well.....on top of that hurting them is not advisable...." The judge cautions "Counselor!" Kirino considers her next words & recalls Ami telling her "Please reveal the truth....." Nao stares at Kirino, wondering at her silence. Kirino remembers Ami, tears rolling down her face, saying "For Nao's sake....." The judge says "Counselor? What's wrong? Please continue....." as Nao stares at her. Finally, coming to a painful decision, Kirino turns to look at Minami "You made a call to Professor Sasaki....after that at 8.30pm.....the operating theatre door opens.....the person that rushed in....." Nao stares on intently, Minami looks away & recalls the operating theatre door opening & Isetani walking in! Kirino says "....was Isetani-sensei, wasn't it....." Shock registers on Nao's face, as well as Isetani's. Kirino continues "Isetani-sensei operated on Masaki Teruko...." His bag & folder slides to the floor & stunned, Nao gets up "That's a lie!" but Kirino presses on "....but the surgery went badly...." Nao stares at Kirino "What are you saying?! What are you saying?! What are you saying Kirino-san!!" The judge calls out "Silence!" but Nao ignores the order yelling "Kirino-san! Kirino-san! Why?!!!" Kirino neither looks at him, nor says a word. Court officials grab a hold of Nao & drag him out of court, stamping all over his bag & folder. Nao's expression is one of utter disbelief as he yells "Kirino-san! Kirino-san!".....an expression of having been betrayed........

Over scenes of an empty courtroom, the empty okonomiyaki restaurant, the empty Masaki home, photographs of the Masaki family & the Isetani family, the empty Isetani home, Ami's room with the soft toy Nao gave her, the empty Masaki garden, the altar with Masaki Teruko's photograph......Nao's voiceover comes on.....
