Away in a manger, no crib for His bed,
sleeps little Lord Jesus, with cats on His head.
The poor Baby sneezes, and then He awakes,
the Wise Men say "Mary, our counsel please take.
These cats do not please us, they fill us with dread."

"We bring you rare incense and finest of balm,
but these cats with the Baby fill us with alarm.
These cats with the Baby, His breathing may stifle.
An error you rue for the rest of your life 'll
be made if these cats the Baby should harm."

Then finally Mary did take their advice,
and out went the cats in the snow and the ice.
The Baby stopped sneezing, and went back to sleep,
and stayed nice and warm, surrounded by sheep.
The place for a cat is out looking for mice.
