Note from Jeff:
8/18/02 Heading into the US Open I figured I would give
everyone an update. I have had a shortened schedule this summer only playing in Cincinnati and Indianapolis due to a slight wrist injury. I was a bit rusty in Cincy, but played much better this week in Indianapolis. I lost to AndrePavel, who is 20 in the world, in 3 sets and played much better tennis. Glenn Weiner and I lost in the quarterfinals of doubles.
It has been good to get some more matches. I am getting better with every day and every match. My confindence is gaining going into the US Open which is what I had hoped for. I'm grateful that I was given a wildcard into the TD Waterhouse Cup in Long Island and will head to the US Open from there.
My schedule at the Open will be very hectic with some different things going on, but I am looking forward to it. I'm especially excited to be participating in Arthur Ashe Kids Day on Saturday.
I am looking forward to playing my favorite major of the year and doing well. Thanks for all the support and check back for another update soon.

A Note from Jeff Regarding Wimbledon:
Now that I am back in the U.S. and have my feet on the ground, I would like to tell you all what an amazing experience I had at Wimbledon. It has always been a dream of mine to just play at Wimbledon and walk on the grounds, there. So, for me, just to be there was awesome! It was my first experience at Wimbledon, and it was something I'll never forget. After beating Noam Okun on Tuesday, I knew there was a possibility that I could face Juan Carlos Fererro in the 2nd round. Sure enough, Fererro defeated Neville Godwin in 4 sets and I then knew that I would face the French Open finalist in the 2nd round. Later that evening, I found out that not only would I be playing Fererro, but that I would play on Centre Court. It was a humbling experience to play on that court against Fererro. It was also good to play so well and win! The amount of support and encouragement I received from the crowd on Centre Court was incredible. However, I also felt the support and encouragement from my friends and family in the States, especially West Virginia. I want to thank you all for that...it means a lot and helps me so much!
