Regaining Rage, Gnosis and Willpower

Sometimes it just doesn't make sense to do some things according to the book when playing online. The biggest problem we face is that we don't have clearly defined "stories" or gaming sessions, and the most common ways of regaining Virtues such as Rage, Gnosis and Willpower are based on these two things.

And what happens because people don't have well-defined ways of regaining their Advantage Traits is that they begin to have use "bottomless" advantage pools, instead, something that is neither fair, nor realistic at all! :) Please be aware that I DO pay attention in a scene to how many points of a virtue you've spent, and how many you SHOULD have left. Play it out. If your Rage is bottoming out, you're going to be feeling pretty laid back or drained. If your Gnosis is low, you're going to feel a bit out of sorts and disconnected in spiritual matters. If your willpower is waning, then you're going to lose your determination and be less resistent to new ideas. Playing this things out can really enhance your roleplaying of a particular scene, and adds a delicious amount of realism.

So to sum things up and simplify things, you are responsible for tracking your own Advantage pools, but I may question them from time to time if I feel you're abusing the honor system. Give yourself back one (1) temporary point each of Rage, Gnosis, and Willpower each morning of play; you may not regain more than your permanent pool with these daily freebies (Rage pools may sometimes exceed permament ratings, but not from "daily freebies"). This should make things REALLY easy for all of us.

To follow are additional thoughts I have on this and some other ways of regaining temporary points of these traits. Goodness knows that we can't have all of the genre running around with nothing in these pools! :)

REGAINING RAGE

The Moon: The first time a werewolf sees the moon at night, the beast inside stirs. Regain 1 pt - New Moon, 2 - waning moon, 3 - waxing/half moon, 4 - full moon. The current phase of the moon can be viewed at Virtual Reality Moon Phases.

Botch: If your character is sufficiently PO'd after you botch a roll, you may regain 1 pt of Rage. But be sure to RP that your character is at least perturbed or angry with the results of his botched action. If he's not mad, you don't get any rage back!

Humiliation: If your character is deeply humiliated, give yourself a point of rage.

Confrontation: If you're in a particularly tense situation where your character is angered, give yourself a point of rage.

New Stories: Well, we don't have "stories" really in the online Environment. So instead of doing this, each person gets back 1 pt of rage per day automatically.

REGAINING GNOSIS

Meditation: The book says that you can regain 1 gnosis point per day by meditating (wits+enigmas, diff 8). Bah. Who has time for all these rolls online? Who can even remember? In Mortality Mocked, if you get a good night's rest (i.e. 8 hours), you regain one pt of gnosis per day upon awakening.

Sacred Hunt: Characters regain their full permanent Gnosis pool if they participate in the Moot Rite of the Sacred Hunt.

Bargaining with Spirits: self-explanatory.

Between Stories: We don't exactly have clearly defined "stories," so you'll have to be content with your one pt a day from "meditation" and rest. :)

REGAINING WILLPOWER

White Wolf isn't clear at all about recovering WP in the Revised WtA core book. They pretty much leave it up to the Storytellers to figure out what works best for their own stories. Here is what you should do for the WtA genre of Mortality Mocked:

Meditation/Rest: In Mortality Mocked, if you get a good night's rest (i.e. 8 hours), you regain one pt of Willpower per day upon awakening.

At ST Discretion: If you really, really make an effort to play your character's auspice well, or if you've played a particular scene in such a way that you really impress me, I may allow you to recover a point of WP, instead of awarding exp for the scene.
