Things are definately growing. All of the Hygrophila
rosenervis (Sunset Hygro) has stop up much more than I expected. The lily in
the stump is filling out well, and the larger Ozelot Sword (just to the right of the
stump) is filling out nicely and has reached the surface with it's little stalk. The
Limnophilia sessiliflora has also really filled
out and shot up. Nothing else is doing much, just kinda hanging out, but even so,
the tank is looking really good. I did pull one bunch of Rotala Indica
(blood stargrass) out, because the sessiliflora had pretty much overshadowed it
and blocked all it's light. All the fish are now back in the big tank, and seem to be enjoying themselves. The angelfish are all showing very strong black stripes and spots, and the two long-fin black tetras are showing very black fins - which is a sign that they're happy and comfortable. I'm starting to see some black algae in the tank, so it appears I've 'graduated' up another level algaewise. I found one old plant almost completely covered in the stuff, so I yanked the plant. The plant has been in pretty bad shape for a long time, and I've been thinking of pulling it anyway - so now I had an excuse. The black mollies were working on it, to some extent... I've about decided that rather than try to rebuild my CO2 reactor, I'm going to buy a cheap Duetto Submersible Filter, drill a little hole in the bottom, install the whole thing upside down and feed the CO2 into it. Being upside down should keep the build-in powerhead from 'choking' on the CO2, as well as keeping the CO2 inside the filter chamber. I'll take out the regular filtration stuff (filter sponge and carbon cartridge) and just let the water run through and mix with the CO2. I was going to buy a powerhead to run the new reactor, because the one I've got really isn't suitable - this way I'm spending a few dollars more and should have a good reliable setup. At least, that's the theory, anyway.... That's about it for this week - see you next week! |
