We lost the big silver Gourami fish last week - no idea
why. Some of the black mollies are also showing some mysterious little tufts of
white on their bodies, so I may have to put the hospital tank back online. Darn it.
I just drained it, too. I'm actually trying to find some space to set up a
smaller tank to use in rooting out cuttings, so I may just set that up as a hospital tank
and be done with it. I'm going to try and find something short and wide that'll fit
under my Eclipse II. I've spotted a couple little snails in the tank - which tells me that my loaches have in fact died. I'm going to have to get more soon. I haven't seen many snails, but some of the plants are showing some damage. The Crypts on the left are rather suddenly doing very well - lots of new leaves and some interesting colors. There's a little lily of some sort over there as well that's beginning to take off. As usual, the Anacharis is having problems - it'll grow like crazy for a while, but then die off (usually the bottom rots and then the rest of the plant floats away). I'm beginning to think that I really don't have a need for any Anacharis any more... ;-) The Didiplis Diandra has pretty much died and gone away - but the Rotala Indica is finally perking up and showing signs of health. I spent a lot of time last week trimming things back - took almost half a five-gallon bucket of cuttings out of the tank and pitched 'em. I need to get that rooting tank done soon - and I need to talk to the LFS and find out what he's interested in and how I should deliver it to him. The Acorus pusillus (that's the grassy stuff in front) really isn't doing very well, but it is hanging in there. I'm beginning to think that what I need to do is get ahold of some micro swords (another foreground grassy plant) and put them in, and see if they'll fill out the front of the tank. Over all, I'm very pleased with the tank's appearance. Left 1/3rd and the right 1/3rd look just great - good balances of color and nice presentation. The middle still needs some work; I'm really hoping that little Ozelot will really take off and fill in as a midground plant, and then I can try and tuck a few other small things around it. That's about it for this week! |
