Castrol Cross Press Confrence - 12/10/99

Last night, Castrol held a press conference at their newest retail location to officially launch their sponsorship of the next race-meet to be held at Woodleigh Raceway. Some regular Woodleigh Raceway riders & drivers were in attendance. The entire press conference was televised on CVM's Talking Sports the very same night at 10:00 PM & rider and driver interviews from the press conference will be aired on CVM Sports news during this week. Representatives from Castrol, the Jamaica Motoring Club, Caribrake, & the Recreational Riders Association of Jamaica were present to make various announcements & answer questions posed by Mr. Hillary Jardine, who is the regular race announcer at Woodleigh Raceway.
This meet, dubbed "Castrol Cross", will see Cars, Bikes & Quads race a three moto format throughout the day. On October 31,1999,  Castrol Cross will be officially sanctioned by the Jamaica Motoring Club & some of Jamaica's top drivers are expected to be there. Of course, Jamaica's motocrossers will be there also to race on the newly laid motocross circuit.
Castrol representatives stated that they are putting up a total of $25,000 JA prize money to be divided out evenly amongst the bike classes at the event. Furthermore, John Ammar of Recreational Riders of Jamaica explained that he had also put up "start money" for the event. "Start money" is offered to all riders in the 125cc, 250cc, Over 250cc, & Quad Classes. "Each rider will receive a sum of $2,000 JA just for showing up and racing." Stated Mr. Ammar. SO in addition to prize money put up by sponsors, every rider (in the classes mentioned) will receive $2,000 JA to start their races; no matter the outcome. If a rider does not finish, they still get their "start money".
What do we think? The start money idea is great, at least if one does not win a lot of money, or no money at all, they will not necessarily  end up losing money. And thus can concentrate more on having fun.
