July 24th 1996
Well! The body took rather longer than anticipated to get back from
the paint shop! It actually came back early July, but I have been a
bit too busy moving house to put anything in here until now.
Since the last update, I have:
- Fitted all the brake pipes and got the brakes working. This
involved buying a new master cylinder and moving the pedals back
by 11mm(!) in order to get them working. All this was in the last
couple of days at our previous house - I needed the brakes
working so that we could tow it to the new house (which is on a
hill).
- Got the dashboard back from the paint shop. It's all nicely
lacquered and looks the business. I drilled the holes for the
glovebox hinge before it was lacquered. Now I just need to make
the housing for the glovebox catch.
- Acquired an electric radiator fan from a diesel Ford Escort which
I have modified so that it will fit on the back of the
radiator. Now I just need a thermostat switch and some coolant
hoses.
- Bought some expanded aluminium grille mesh which my wife trimmed
down to size with some tin snips and that now sits behind the
stainless grille.
- Got about 1/3rd the way through fitting the wiring loom. All the
lights are now wired up. I just have to wiring up the engine bay
and dashboard now.
It really is still just a question of connected things together now
and then I can start it all up. Time is the biggest limiting factor
(especially having just moved house), although I have a couple of days
off next week so I can push on with the wiring and stuff.
