Detailed Pictures of 1966 Corvette Race Car

This page loads slowly due to the pictures. However, they are this large so that you can see the details. Otherwise they would be worthless. So please be patience.

The rear clip is hinged to provide access to the fuel cell, rear suspension, battery, and oil cooler. A rear end can be changed in under 30 minutes with hand tools. The front clip is removable but does not hinge. Hood is separate for normal engine access. Full clip comes off for engine removal, suspension work, and better access as needed.
Rear suspension, showing the fiberglass spring, fuel cell mounting, half shafts, and Heim jointed camber rods.
Rear chassis area, showing the 22 gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell, the oil cooler with twin electric fans, the cross bracing of the main hoop of the roll cage, and the aluminum bulkhead around the fuel cell.

Fuel Safe 22 gallon fuel cell. Holley electric fuel pump shown on right side next to frame rail. Aluminum bulkhead wraps around the fuel cell.
Details of the left side. Door is a real door, with stock hinges and inner panel. Two side bars are seen, one just above the door sill, and the other from the shoulder area down to the foot area, with a bend out into the door for extra room and extra crush distance. Steering column is a tilt column for easier entry and exit. Side mirror is a wide angle mirror (motorcycle) so that a wider area is seen behind and to prevent any low cars from sneaking in under you in a corner.
Details of the roll cage. A top hoop is gussetted at each junction. A center bar adds to the strength of the top hoop and prevents objects from entering the driver area. Wink mirror sits under the hoop to provide wide field of view and to keep it out of your way.
Right side of the car showing the door, inner door panel, and right side of the cage.
View of the full cage with roll bar padding. This padding is worn and old, however, there are new sticks of new padding that come with the car.
Even though the driveshaft is trapped inside the body and the frame, a driveshaft hoop adds extra security. Half inch oil lines go to the engine and the Accusump from the cooler. The battery box is seen on the right side under the cross brace.
View of the engine. LT1 intake manifold is atop the destroked 307 (305 cid). Underdriven crank pulley keeps water pump from cavitating and reduces the drag by the alternator. Gusset plates on the suspension mounting points and the engine mounts can be see in lower right. Brake duct hoses can be seen over the upper A-arms. Fuel pressure regulator is seen on firewall at left.
Close up of the suspension and engine mount gussetting.
