Laidback Biker's Harley Page

Here's just alittle bit about me to let yall know who made this page. I'm a 51 yr old biker, retired soldier, ex-cop, living in the Great Northwoods of Northern Wisconsin. I'm originally from L.A. (lower Alabama) and how I got up here is a long story.

I was born in Lubbock, Texas but grew up in Alabama where my father was from, moved to Ohio (Yankee state unfortunately) and graduated high school from there. Going to a Yankee high school with a Southern accent made for some interesting times nonetheless. I graduated in '70 and went into the Army where I was a 11B (Infantry) and was stationed in West Berlin, Germany for 3 years. I ETS'd in '75 and went back to Ohio where I worked in a factory until I got on the Zanesville Police Dept in '76 where I was a patrolman and later a Shift Sergeant. I left the P.D. in '86 and went back into the Army as a 95B (Military Policeman) and went straight to Korea for a year.

After I left Korea in '87 I was stationed in Ft. Polk, La until '89 and then was sent to Baumholder, Germany where I served until I retired in '02. I was assigned to the 92d MP Co until '93 and during that time I was a Squad Leader and seen duty in Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

In '93 I transfered to the Provost Marshal's Office where I was a Desk Sergeant, Assistant Operations Sergeant, Station Commander, and Operations Sergeant. I retired from the U.S.Army in May 01, 2002.

I settled in the boonies of northern Wisconsin, got a full time job making custom doors, let my hair grow and trying to get used to being a civilian again.

I'll let you in on a secret, I don't think I'll ever get used to being a civilian. As for missing the military, "Hell Yes!" I dont miss the bullshit that we went thru on a daily basis, but the lifestyle, having a purpose, a mission, being part of something important, that I do miss, but it's part of the past. And as we all know, you can't live in the past. I've got my memories of the military, and I still keep in touch with my friends that I made in the military. For those that have never put on a uniform and served in the military, you might not understand, but if you do, more power to you. The friends that you make in the military stay with you for life. We lived, ate, fought, partied together on a daily basis.

Do I regret spending 20 years of my life in the military? Hell no! I've been places, seen and done things that alot of people have only thought about seeing and doing. It's nothing that hundreds of thousands of other soldiers haven't done from Valley Forge up to Iraqi Freedom, and there'll be hundreds of thousands in the future that'll do the same thing.

Even though my Class A uniform has been put in a garmet bag and hung in the closet, and my BDU's are used for hunting, there'll always be a part of me that stands formation, and still has chills run thru him at flag call.
