The GTi Scirocco (1982-1984) (1.6 engine - 110 BHP) preceded the GTX model. It is identifiable by the small rear screen spoiler, the colour coded  B pillars and the lack of a bodykit. They also used the original Golf GTi 9 spoke alloys wheels (see the silver cars above). They are getting quite rare now.
