Nice Buick. I have an appreciation for the amount of work that you've put into the car. My 61 Buick was a gift from my Mother-in-law from New Jersey. The car belonged to my wife's Grand-Mother who passed away 25 years ago. The car sit in a garage only 300 yards from the New York harbor and all its salt water in the air. Truth is, I thought that my wife wanted me to fix it up because it was her Grand-Mother's. She thought that I wanted to fix it up. We both thought that her Mother wanted us to fix it up. Come to find out, neither of us wanted it. The motor wouldn't turn over with a four foot craftsman ratchet and an eight foot pipe attached to the nut on the crank. all this after a 550 mile drive from Ohio failed to bring it home. I had the car brought back on a flat bed truck. To make a long story short. I have a rebuilt engine in it and over $8000.00 so far. The car is clean and solid. Now, for the reason I'm writing this to you. I would like some advise if you don't mind. I have just been told by an AAMCO Transmission mechanic that the transmission needs rebuilt and it will cost $800.00 for labor and $1200.00 for parts. He calls the transmission a dynaflow and I haven't been able to conferm that. When I first took it to him he indicated that it would be $1000.00 at worst case. The transmission shifted smooth. I suspected that the car being slugish may be caused by the transmission. For my question. Do you think that I'm being taken for a ride or should I pay the price of $2000.00 for a transmission rebuild. Thanks Paul
