Great to see that the daylight hours are getting longer, I know myself that I get the urge to get out a bit more - especially after work and head down to the garage.
Our MkIII has had it's pre-summer spruce up, ready for the many already planned outings, and yes, there always seems to be something that needs to be done.
Interesting to see what's happening with petrol prices at the moment - I have commented on petrol prices in the past - one moves, and then another, and so on.
I was interested to see what happened when Challenge opened it's doors in town, within hours all the other companies had dropped their prices - are we being duped? who knows? it will be interesting to see what is ahead
Take care

This month's mag is the first to be printed direct off computer, using this method will enable us to have better print quality and more photographs.
The photo's on the CENTRE PAGE are all of Ernie Sprague racing various MkIVs, kindly loaned to us by Ernie. I plan to also use them in a racing section on the club web site. If anybody has photo's of other Marks being raced or rallied I'd appreciate a loan of them so I can get them scanned and add them to the site, and also use them in future mags.
The web site is averaging about 6 visitors a day from all around the world including Denmark 25, Norway 28, France 14, Sweden 70, Nederlands 17, Canada 25, UK 82, and Australia 235. I also receive a number of emails each week from Zephyr owners world-wide, a lot of whom comment on how active our club is.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this month's mag, and if any of you have items of interest for future editions please contact me.

The day was beautifully fine, the Zephyrs and Zodiacs gleaming and ready to go. The time was 1.00pm and the place - the Northtown Mall carpark
John Hull was there with the instructions and other give-aways in a carry bag, all well
organised!
After John had advised the drivers of a few minor changes to the instructions it was off up Hobbs Street and into Selwyn Street.
The route took us down Kellands Hill and out through the Levels Valley area to Pleasant Point where Garey Hanifin stopped to check out the Mark 3 Zodiac, with the help of a few others.
We then headed out towards Raincliff, did a loop to come back on the same road again and then headed down the Zig Zag to an afternoon tea stop on the village green at Cave.
The stop brought about the usual conversation when club members gather - you guessed it - Zephyr's and Zodiac's. The line up on the green included the Vaughan's and the Campbell's Mark 4 Zodiacs, Hanifin's Mark 3 Zodiac, Lash's, Stevens Mark 3 Zephyr's, Ladbrook's Mark 2 Zodiac convertible, Goddard's Mark 2 Zodiac on its first Zephyr run, and the Harkness's in a Mark 5 - Toyota (bugger!)
After a pleasant break we headed off over towards Cannington and then over the Pareora Gorge to Home Station and then up Gordons Valley and back to Brassels Bridge through Otipua to the Terminus Hotel for another 'natter' where John and Glenis Hull joined us.
The run, over a total of 84 miles, was very interesting and enjoyable with everyone describing it as a good opportunity to give the cars a run.

Zodiac
We have always liked MkIIIs, especially Zodiacs, and thought that if a good one came along it would fill out the collection nicely.
It was early 1998 that John Nichols told us of an "almost finished" MkIII Zodiac for sale in Blenheim. It was undercoated and "only the paint applied and you're away!!" - "Oh yeah" I hear you say.
Well anyway, we cruised up to Blenheim and had a look at the car, and the following week the deal was settled.
Next, it was back to Blenheim to pick up the car. We took a friends car transporter truck up, and after loading all the bits on and tying down the car we headed home to Timaru. It was a long trip but Suzie and I had a lot of fun and spent a quiet night in a little seaside motel on the Kaikoura Coast on the way home.
When we finally started to put the car back on the road we noticed quite a lot of "other stuff" that needed doing - "what did you expect?" I hear you say.......
t had a fully reconditioned motor and received a back to bare metal preparation process prior to being painted.
Anyway, about halfway through the the process of getting it back on the road, a real nice '59 Chevy ended up in the Hanifin garage.
It didn't need any work, but took the concentration off the Zody as we happily cruised in the big finned Chevy.
After the International Convention this year I thought it was about time I got stuck into the Zody as it had been repainted since Christmas.
After a heap of work it was finally finished and ready for it's first cruise. It drives great, looks great and the colour certainly gets lots of comment. It's called Rose Metallic, and is a 1990-91 Honda colour.
Again, it's the old story - any project like this falls into the "3 times" category:
It will cost 3 times more than you budgeted.
It will take 3 times longer than you thought.
There will be 3 times more work to do than you thought.

Back in the 1800's the Tates Watch Company of Massachusetts wanted to produce other products and, since they already made the cases for pocket watches, decided to market compasses for the pioneers traveling west.
It turned out that although their watches were of finest quality, their compasses were so bad that people often ended up in Canada or Mexico rather than California.
This, of course, is the origin of the expression,
"He who has a Tates is lost!"
Think about it
Why don't they make mouse flavoured catfood?
Why do they sterilise the needles for lethal injections?
Why is abbreviated such a long word?
What would a chair look like if knees bent the other way?
If you send someone Styrofoam, what do you pack it in?
So, what's the speed of dark?
Why is a carrot more orange than an orange?
Who's idea was it for the word "lisp" to have an "s" in it?
If vegetarians eat vegetables what do humanitarians eat?
Isn't Disney World just a people trap operated by a mouse?
War doesn't determine who's right, just who's left.
A man rushed into the doctor's office and shouted,
"Doctor! I think I'm shrinking!!"
The doctor calmly responded, "Now, settle down.
You'll just have to be a little patient."
