You can't. Johnny Lam, owner of Belaray Motorsports in Riverside, California, spent months working on his Civic Si. "I was hoping to be the first turbo Si on the street." His dream began when mommy and daddy purchased the small naturally aspirated economy car and handed it to Lam. Immediately Johnny began working on his car, using the connections he gained by the formation BelaRay Motorsports. Jokingly I said, "Why don't we trade cars for a day." Johnny extended his arm out and handed me the keys. "Sure." After having an orgasm, I climbed into the rice burner and learned first hand, what all the hype was about. Upon releasing the ACT full race, 6-puck clutch the car jerked forward with a frenzie of uncontrolled power, and then...stalled. There's nothing like trying to get a car going,
with the reciprocating mass of a small flywheel, the rather whimpy momentum
generated by the small 1.6-liter motor, and a clutch that would rather
snap apart the transmission instead of getting the car moving. That
being said, a more careful and controlled
release around 2800rpm got the car moving...kinda. As soon as I laughed in excitement as the turbocharged beast edged forward, a speed bump made it way in front of me. Once again, upon careful application of throttle and clutch, I conquered the concrete mass and made my way out. Moments later the Clifford Alarm began chirpping signalling the demand for the owners code. After the anti-theft system determined that the
owner was not present, the car turned itself off, and yelled hysterically
with a series of beeps, whistes and loud chirps until the panicking driver
stepped out. "Oh, yah. Art, I forgot to tell you..."
There are audio and video line inputs flush mounted on the center console. Johnny likes to bring his Playstation or watch movies on long road trips or during class time. There's also an external 110volt standard household output for a laptop, microwave or any other thing Lam wants to bring with him. The fact that his ride was less than a year old made no difference to Johnny, he was set on building his show car. Each new day, Lam was busy working on getting the next new part slapped onto his car. "It takes a lot of negotiation to get the rights parts for the best deal." Johnny's hard work eventually paid off. A year later, his Blue Civic Si had seen the front cover of Super Street Magazine, been featured in a popular Japanese magazine, won numerous awards, and is the display car for Xenon's body kit in their annual catalog. "It took a lot of time, and
a lot of kissing ass to get this far." Johnny plans to be in a few
more magazines before he turns his car back to its naturally aspirated
roots and give it up to a new owner. Its currently being worked on
by the innovative professionals at Automotive Entertainment in Rosemead,
California. So what is Johnny's "Civic Duty?" To be the owner
of the greatest car in the world. While that dream may never come
true, you can bet this car will be catchin' plenty of attention, and turning
still more heads as it bumps its system.
