Towing The Line

An advanced Police crew, three students and an instructor riding number two are well into the last leg of their course on a fast B class country road.
It is straight for about a mile, gently downhill and the view is open. At the end of the clear stretch there is a crossroads with give way signs on the lanes joining each side.
Half a mile from the junction, The crew see a car emerge. OK, it is going straight across, plenty of time for it to clear before they arrive at the hazard. Getting closer now, they see a second car approaching from the same road, nearing the give way line.
Of course it’s going to stop, The driver has seen us thinks the leading rider, so do his colleagues. But no, the second car keeps coming and is entering the crews road space. Emergency braking, downhill shift through the gears, white knuckle time! and only now does the lead rider spot an unmarked tow rope between the two cars!!!!
By the time the rider stops his front wheel has picked up the rope which has jammed behind the front forks. The instructor has braked hard by the first drivers door and is hammering on the window shouting Stop, you naughty man! (I think that’s what he said!)
No one is hurt, no damage sustained to any vehicle, but both drivers have some questions to answer later!
Thanks to Examiner Lester Parsons of Kent Traffic Division - he was the instructor.
