Rolex 24 at Daytona
DAYTONA BEACH, FL, February 6, 2000 - The 38th running of the Rolex 24 at Daytona produced an exhilarating debut for Cadillac, giving them their first podium finishes. Drivers Andy Wallace, Butch Leitzinger and Frank Lagorce scored a second-place finish in the Sports Races class and 13th overall, while teammates Wayne Taylor, Eric Van de Poele and Massimiliano (Max) Angelelli finished third in class and fourteenth overall.

World-renowned race vehicle builders Riley and Scott (R&S) qualified the #5 Cadillac Northstar LMP in the fifth position and led the first official race lap for Cadillac during the early stages until a transmission problem caused the machine to lose numerous laps

A problem with the right rear wheel plagued the #6 Cadillac Northstar LMP early on, but the team rebounded quickly, moving into the second overall position at Hour 16. The #6 machine was the quickest car on the race track with six hours remaining, making up approximately four seconds per lap to the leader. At that pace the Indianapolis-based team would have been battling for the overall lead during the final hour of competition. Unfortunately a similar transmission problem plagued the #6 machine around 7:05 a.m. and forced the team to make the necessary repairs. The car continued to play catch-up until 11:47 a.m. when it pulled off course in the first turn, reporting a loss of pressure.

Superflo 12 Hours at Sebring
SEBRING, FL, March 18, 2000 - The 48th running of the Superflo 12 hours at Sebring, the nation's oldest road race, produced another Top 10 showing for the Cadillac Northstar LMP sports racer.

Drivers Eric van de Poele, Massimiliano (Max) Angelelli and Wayne Taylor scored a sixth-place finish in the Prototype class, and a sixth-place finish overall. Team Cadillac teammates Andy Wallace, Franck Lagorce and Butch Leitzinger had an impressive run early, running in sixth place until Wallace made contact with the retaining wall forcing the car out of competition during the early stages of the event.

The DAMS-Team came to Sebring International Raceway with a brand new chassis. The team unloaded the #31 Motorola Cadillac Northstar LMP off the truck and jumped right into the race competition. Running in sixth place at the halfway point, the team developed a clutch problem and was forced to take the car back to the paddock area, ending their day.

24 hour of Lemans
France, June 18, 2000 Three out of four Cadillac Northstar LMPs finished in 20th, 22nd and 23rd position overall with Bernard/Collard/Montagny leading home Wallace/Lagorce/Leitzinger and Taylor/Van de Poele/Angelelli. A fourth place overall looked increasingly likely for the Motorola-DAMS car until two hours before the end of the race a suspension failure put paid to the team's efforts to score Cadillac's highest ever finishing position.

Said Cadillac Northstar LMP Program Manager Jeff Kettman: "Throughout the white-hot crucible that is Le Mans, the difficulties Cadillac faced were nothing short of colossal. Still, the Argentinium silver car, along with their European counterparts, fought along bravely as their Cadillac Northstar engines raced along with near flawless perfection. As certain ancillary aspects of the car suffered failure (clutch and gearbox), the Northstar engine performed up to Cadillac's ultra-high standards. Sure, everyone here is disappointed that we didn't finish higher, but we are extremely pleased with the durability of this engine. And this crew put in a Herculean effort to get us to the finish. Now that we know some of the weak spots with these cars, we will certainly work to rectify it. We know where and when our competitors were faster. We come away from this track confident that we will do better next year. So, really, there's a lot of great news for Cadillac in our first year at Le Mans. "

Said Motorola-DAMS Cadillac team boss, Jean-Paul Driot: " We are just glad to have been a part of Le Mans and this great experience that goes with it. Our team worked hard and I am proud of the valiant effort that we made to include the drivers who started out in 9th position, continuing to climb to our highest one at 4th."
