Fans of the J-bodies, get a load of this. What you see here is the Chrysler Phantom R/T, a j-body type R/T with the same Lotus - inspired engine as the other R/T's (Spirit R/T, Daytona R/T, etc…). There is, of course, a catch. The Phantom is a car only produced in Mexico, and they are more rare than the other R/T models that were made here in America.

The phantom is powered by Dodge's 2.2L DOHC 16 valve Intercooled Turbo III, boasting a maximum output of 224 horses. It makes one curse Chrysler for not offering the best-looking R/T in the U.S. The average price for a Phantom R/T is around $8500, but the more difficult problem is finding a way down there and making it back in one piece. OK, so I've done some researching on getting my hands on one. Can you blame me?

A Chrysler Phantom (no R/T) also exists, which is simply a renamed LeBaron. However, no convertibles of the j-body were ever available in Mexico.

The Phantom R/T was only available in 1992 and 1993, enabling the R/T to span over two model years with significant body changes: most notably the covered headlamp style to the expose headlamps. All were highline j-bodies, complete with leather, high-end stereo, power seats, driver's side airbag, and a 5-speed transmission, among other amenities.

Note the Phantom's dash is the same as recent j-bodies, except for the RPM and boost gauges.
