Project '57 Chevy
We are rapidly approaching the time for some big decisions for Project '57! The items
to be decided will be influenced by the RETRO show-driver look we're trying to achieve. For
instance, we're avoiding the original surf green color (boring!) and the original interior (spartan and ugly!). For the paint color, I think we've decided
on a two tone scheme with red & shoreline beige. The interior will
continue the tan/beige theme in an original '57 Bel Air pattern
for the doors and seats using new twead thread and maybe some leather (if
we can keep the price down!)....
Roger Shafer's 150 sports the same color scheme we want with our Project '57. Thanks for the inspiration Roger!
The car also shows the look that can be achieved with 15" wheels. Note the 15" wheels result in a
fairly equal amount of rubber and wheel
in the wheel wells.
As a contrast to the look of a 15" wheel (the minimum acceptable size for
any modern Hot Rod!), check out the monster 20" wheels on
Budnik's '56 Nomad!
All wheel! Incredible! ...but the price tag for the big billet wheels exceed
our budget!
The Classic Chevy Int'l '57 Giveaway
car sports 17" billets and looks righteous! An aggressive look with the wheels but a smaller tire profile. It is great example of
today's Pro-Cruiser look. The rear wheels are 17" x 11"....resulting in some
very wide meats out back! But is the effect of those wide meats lost with the narrow side walls? Maybe so...
A long time fan of the 1960's vintage
American Racing Torq-Thrust "D"
wheels, I was excited to see them update the wheel for the 1990's....
Well, that's enough for this update (3/23/99)....

the highly polished
Torq-Thrust II. Great looking wheels!
Now, do we go with the new 17" style with thin sidewalls? Or do we stick with a more traditional Hot Rod look with 15" wheels and fatter sidewalls? Hmmmm....
Right now, we're leaning toward the traditional look, I think you lose the effect of fat meats when you run 17" wheels with those thin sidewall tires. Heck, if you're going to run tires with skinny sidewalls, why not stick to a skinny tire as well? OK, Decision made!...15" wheels & tires!
Say, anyone want to buy a crusty old set of 14" Keystone Klassics - vintage 1977??
