The River The Monongahelia River runs through Morgantown, and is hard to miss. To thouroughly enjoy it, consider spending an afternoon on the rails to trails, a new trail system that is a converted railroad. It follows the river for several miles. One can rent bikes or skates or kayaks, or just walk. |

Chestnut Ridge This is the best place in Morgantown to go sledding. On any given snowy day, expect to see many teenagers sledding down the huge hill. There is also a pond to swim in during the summer and playgrounds and hiking and cross country skiing opportunities. It is near Cooper's Rock, and there are camping facilities nearby. |

The Lake Cheat Lake is a popular destination on hot summer days. You can rent a boat or fish or swim or walk around on the rails to trails. It is a man made lake, created from the Cheat River by a dam. |
