These two ground breaking, and dare we say it life altering, movies star the singing scot, Ewan McGregor. With this common theme, it was impossible to choose only one as a favorite and create a single site...so why not combine them in the one easy to access place?
Each movie varied in success at the box office, though both have held strong, and upon DVD release developed a large and passionate following amongst mainstream and alternative fans alike. They are a credit to Ewan's fearless choices when signing onto productions and are two notable features in his career.
Look around the site hopefully you'll find plenty to keep you entertained, be it fanfiction, scripts, sounds, pictures or the exclusive music videos. Baz Luhrmann's, Moulin Rouge well and truly reclaimed the place musicals in cinema when it hit screens in 2001. A collection of pop-culture musical and literature references entwined with loveable and entertaining characters, makes Moulin Rouge a movie which is steadily gaining cult status. The list of credible performers are a testament to the quality production, featuring, Ewan McGregor, Nicole Kidman, John Leguizamo, Richard Roxburgh, Jim Broadbent, David Wenham & Kylie Minogue. It's 1899 and Paris is in the midst of the bohemian revolution. The girls of the Moulin Rouge live only for money and fame, that is until our penniless poet Christian (McGregor) arrives and woos the starlet, Satine (Kidman), teaching her about Truth, Beauty, Freedom and Love.
Todd Haynes', Velvet Goldmine was created in 1997. It's a veritable glam rock feast for the eyes and delight for the ears. A 70's period musical of sorts, with an elite cast featuring Ewan McGregor, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Christian Bale, Toni Collette, Eddie Izzard and band, Placebo. Glitter extraordinaire, Velvet Goldmine is a mix of fiction and truth, mirroring elements in musical history created by Bowie, Iggy Pop & co. The movie follows Arthur Stuart (Bale) as he looks back over the life of bi-sexual glam rock singer, Brian Slade (JRM) and his cohort, Curt Wilde (McGregor).
