EVENTS CALENDAR 2009


April 20, 7:00 pm: Camp Meeting at The Palace Cafe on US 190 West, next to the courthouse square.

May 1-3: LA Division Reunion in Natchitoches, LA:  Hosted by the Col. Samuel D. Russell Camp #1617 of Natchitoches.

Events include:

• Friday Night Fish Fry

• Division Executive Council Meeting on Friday night

• SCV Memorial Luncheon with guest speaker Dr. Robert M. Peters on Saturday

• SCV Awards Banquet with guest speaker Scott Dearman, Interpretive Ranger at Mansfield State Historic Site on Saturday

• Registrations with meal RSVP’s must be received by the host camp by April 23, 2009.  Registrations without meals will be accepted up to and on the days of the Reunion.

Saturday, May 9: Adopt-a-Road Cleanup in Nuba at 8:30am.  Meet at the old Gator Gold Truckstop.  Water will be provided.

Monday, May 18th: Camp Meeting at the Palace Café.  7:00pm

Saturday, June 6: CONFEDERATE MEMORIAL DAY (Observed) Ceremony at 9:30 am on the St. Landry Parish Confederate Monument on the Courthouse Square. Maximum camp participation strongly encouraged on this day that we remember our fallen Confederate Dead as earnestly as we recall fallen Veterans on Memorial Day.  We will also disperse to place flags on graves at local cemeteries.

Monday, June 15: Camp Meeting at the Palace Café.  7:00pm

In 1906, Confederate General Stephen D. Lee gave this "Charge" to the real Sons of Confederate Veterans at the United Confederate Veterans Reunion in New Orleans.  The words below are the raison d'etre of the Sons of Confederate Veterans:
The Charge

"To you Sons of Confederate Veterans, we submit the vindication of the Cause for which we fought; To your strength, will be given the defense of the Confederate Soldier's good name, the guardianship of his history, the emulation of his virtues, the perpetuation of those principals he loved and which made him glorious and which you also cherish.
