8/10. American War Captain Nathan Algren (Cruise) trains and lead's a group of Japenese soldiers to defeat a rebellion of the countries remaining Samurai. Algren is captured by the Samurai and soon becomes part of the village he is being held hostage in and find's that his true warrior is becoming unleashed as he trains to become a Samurai with the very people we once called his enemies. Soon, the Japenese forces begin to search for the Samurai again... ready to begin a war with them that will soon determine the fate of Japenese traditions, and thier lives.
This is actually a good movie and I can't quite understand why it didn't do so hot in the domestic box office. Tom Cruise is in it, he's a good guy, what more could girls want? I'm not a girl, and I'm not watching it for Tom Cruise, but this was a good solid movie
Tom Cruise was good as his character, but his character seemed like he didn't want to be in the war because of his nightmares of killing Indians. But he puts in a solid effort. Ken Watanbe as Katsumoto was good also, and I enjoyed him as the last samurai.
When I first saw the previews for this movie, I thought that Tom Cruise would be the last samurai, which wouldn't have made sense since Cruise is a white, english guy. So it made sense when he was trying to go after a Japanese person as the last samurai.
All in all, a good movie all the way around. The only complaint is the long runtime, but this movie is still good
