Vessel to be on hand steering. |

Proceed to contingency anchorage nearby if near shallow water / vicinity of
dangers. |

|
Notice to anchor party, ask them to prepare anchor. |

|
Ask the chief engineer to assess cause of failure. |
|
|
Ask engineers to rectify/repair if possible. |
|
|
Inform company. Ask company to arrange repair if not possible onboard. |
|
|
If repair is not possible, seek for outside assistance. |
|
|
Send urgency/distress message as appropriate if deemed necessary. |
|
|
Log down all the timings, position where engine failed, anchor/drifting
position etc. |
