Fatal Traffic Collision On the morning of January 9, 2004 at approximately 11:07A.M. Menlo Park Police officers responded to the 2100 block of Santa Cruz Ave. regarding a call of a traffic collision. The collision involved a pedestrian crossing the street, being struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Santa Cruz Ave. The Menlo Park Fire District also responded to this call to treat the pedestrian. The pedestrian died at the scene as a result of injuries she suffered during the collision. The driver was not injured in the collision. The driver was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure, and was released a short time later. The deceased pedestrian is an adult female. More information will be available on the victim in coming days pending notification of the victim’s family by the San Mateo County Coroner. More information about the driver of the vehicle will be available as the investigation progresses. Santa Cruz Ave. between Sand Hill Rd. and Alameda de las Pulgas was closed for over three hours while the collision was investigated by MPPD. This caused considerable traffic congestion on Sand Hill Rd. and on Alameda de las Pulgas, as traffic was diverted away from the collision scene. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone who witnessed this collision, or has information on this collision is asked to call Ofc. Kia Myers or Ofc. Craig McCarty at (650) 330-6300. |
