Menlo Park Police Reserve Lt. Robert Wood has retired after 28 years of service with the Menlo Park Police Department. Over his career he has received numerous commendations and letters of appreciation. At a recent Police Department annual meeting, Bob was awarded the "Chief's Award for Meritorious Service" for his dedication to the Police Department and to the citizens of Menlo Park.

Until recently, Bob also worked full time at the Unites States Geological Survey (U.S.G.S.) in Menlo Park as a graphic artist, starting there in 1966. He graduated from San Francisco State with a B.A. degree in Art and served in the U.S. Army. Bob began his career as a Reserve Officer with MPPD assigned to Patrol in July 1974. He was promoted to Reserve Sergeant in July 1977 and assumed the responsibility of scheduling, training and recruiting. An ordinance authorizing him to have the full power and duties of a Peace Officer was passed by the City Council in 1986 and proclaimed Bob to be a "Designated Police Officer" with the City of Menlo Park.

Bob was promoted to Reserve Lieutenant in November 1988. He has been a vital part in the success of the Reserve Officer Program which would have failed long ago if not for Bob's commitment of dedication and hard work. Bob's leadership and mentoring of numerous Police Officers in the department has helped them achieve their career goals in law enforcement. His positive influence has affected many lives over the years. Bob, his wife and family lived for many years, until recently, in the Willows area of Menlo Park.

Reserve Lt. Bob Wood volunteered countless hours to the Menlo Park Police Department and to the City of Menlo Park. He will be truly missed.  ###
