On Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at about 10:20 PM two subjects walked into the open Blockbuster Video store on El Camino Real and removed numerous DVDs from the display shelf. The suspects loaded the property into shopping bags and when confronted by the store manager, fled into a waiting vehicle with the property. The Menlo Park Police Department received the 9-1-1 call and a description of the suspect vehicle was immediately broadcast. Several minutes later Menlo Park Police Officer Burke Bruttig spotted the suspect vehicle with three occupants inside, driving onto Altschul Ave., in the unincorporated area of Menlo Park. When the suspect vehicle was stopped, one of the occupants of the car fled on foot.

Officers from the Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Atherton Police Departments and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Department responded to the area. The suspect was located several blocks from where he fled with the assistance of a Palo Alto Police K-9 in a rear yard of a residence on Oakley Ave. All of the stolen property was recovered inside of the suspect’s vehicle. All three suspects were booked into the San Mateo County Jail on burglary and conspiracy charges. None of the Blockbuster Video Store employees were injured as a result of this incident.###
