San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Bomb unit

On 04-02-01 at about 1011 hrs, the Menlo Park Police Department received a call from an employee within the office complex at 1100 Alma Street regarding a suspicious person who appeared to be tampering with one of the employee's vehicles. Menlo Park officers responded and learned that a subject (Jerry Hamrick), was an acquaintance of one employee and may have been stalking her for sometime. The subject, Jerry Hamrick had been seen to the rear of the employee's car and appeared to be tampering with it. The subject was seen leaving the area moments later.

Menlo Park officers checked the employee's vehicle and found a suspicious object attached to the under carriage of the vehicle. It appeared that the object could have been an explosive device. San Mateo County Sheriffs bomb squad was requested to respond. Police cordoned off the area. Upon the bomb squad's arrival, the object was removed with the use of a robot. The bomb squad ultimately destroyed the object on the scene. The object was found not to be an explosive device, but rather some type of unknown electronic device.

The suspect, Jerry Hamrick was contacted by detectives and booked into San Mateo County jail on charges of stalking and planting the device.
