A 79-year-old female had been recently released from a local hospital and was being transported home to Palo Alto by a home healthcare transport unit. While the driver was southbound on 101 near Marsh Road, he noticed that the female in the rear seat was unconscious. The driver contacted EMS with his cellular phone and was directed to turn off at the nearest off ramp. The driver stopped on Marsh Road and Bayfront Expressway and was attempting to assist the victim. Menlo Park Fire Department arrived and attempted to revive the victim but to no avail. The victim appeared to have expired from natural causes. The victim had a lengthy medical history. The San Mateo County Coroner arrived and took custody of the body.
